Is There Any Hope - Please Advise - Water Damage

I made a really stupid move last night and decided to use our little fridge as a summer hideout for my smokes. Little did I realize that there was ice formed inside the little freezer on the top, which melted when I turned the fridge down to low. So needless to say I'm a dumbAZZ and probably destroyed 80% of my cigar collection.

70% of my habanos made it through ok since most were boxed. I had 6 cedar trays full of smokes and all are affected. Damn Damn Damn!!!
  • Is there any way to salvage cigars that are thoroughly soaked with water?
How about ones that are very damp and not soaked all the way through?
What is the best way to get these dried out? - Slowly I would assume

I really feel terrible and am shaking as I type this post. Oh well it's only money right?

I would appreciate any helpful advice you guys can lend.

Here's some of the damage -

Oh man...that SUCKS! I'm sooo sorry to see that happen to a CS member...

I have no input on whether those are salvageable, but I hope they are. I've never had any water damage to any of my sticks...yet...so I have no experience...

Good luck man...

I had a minor similar problem. Since I have beads I put them in that environment and they seem to be getting better. I only damaged a couple but they seem to be recovering. Good luck.

Re: Is There Any Hope - Please Advise - Water Damage

someone at the b&m I work at sometimes dropped water on a couple boxes of Fuentes when trying to fill the humidifier. We took them out of the boxes and allowed them to dry out slowly in an extra cabinet humidor for awhile. Some developed mold and had to be thrown away, but most only suffered cosmetic damage. Just take your time with them. Good luck.

You can let them dry out and they will become smokeable.

As for that perfect burn, it is probably lost due to the water damage. Check for mold periodically as you may get some due to the water damage.

I would dry them out and smoke them as quickly as you can.

Re: Is There Any Hope - Please Advise - Water Damage

Although I have no idea what I am talking about. . .

Once they dry, you might want to put them in a container with some dry beads so the beads can absorb any excess moisture. I would think it would be better to dry them all the way and then try to re-humidify them. This is just a thought, no evidence or proof this would be the best idea.

This really sucks, I am feeling your pain.

Re: Is There Any Hope - Please Advise - Water Damage

Just let them dry out, they should be fine, I had a hand full of wrinkled cigars and I just placed them in front of my window A/C unit(in front of the evaporator).

Who knows what was in the ice that melted? That will determine if they are salvagable.
