I Love My Local Shop!

I love my local shop - guy just sold me a Shark for $11! And he sold me a 1997 fuente fuente opus for $18 the other day.

Basically sells everything for retail and not a cent more, no matter how good or rare the cigar. I love it when a shop doesn't go out of thier way to rip you off. And like any good/smart owner, he knows his loyal customers and hooks you up w/ free smokes from time to time.
I remember I went into a snooty cigar bar here in NJ a few years back and they were selling Opus robustos for $50 a stick! I laughed in the guys face when he told me the price.
He acted as if I knew nothing about cigars and said "you obviously don't know how rare these are". I then proceded to pull out the Opus DC I had in my pocket and said "Dude, I bought this yesterday down the street for $15".
Man, that felt good!

I love my local shop too!!! Tonight he had a rep from Fonseca there. Buy 2 get 1 free!! Free food and drinks. Lots of people, place full of smoke. Had a great time. Let's hear it for the local guy. Don't get that from CigarBid.com.

I am glad to hear that you all have such good local cigar guys. I am still trying to find that shop. Hopefully I too will be thanking that local shop some day soon.

Re: I Love My Local Shop!

unfortunately, my closest cigar shop is in the back of a nasty/dirty gas station that sells cheap cigs....

the next closest is about a 30+ minute drive into missouri... pretty nice place, but the lounge area is small. nice selection of cigars though, best i've seen in person. the guys are pretty cool as well, i thought one of them was Rick Sutcliff (old baseball player from the 70s/80s), looks just like him. their prices aren't too bad, but this shop in killeen texas (by ft. hood) has some of the best prices i've ever seen.

i would love to have a cool local hangout like that, and have great customer service to boot. if i could, i'd probably offer to work there part time (and not just to smoke up my paycheck).

Re: I Love My Local Shop!

I have to admit...I was a 100% dedicated web shopper before moving to Phoenix (except for times I was in Manhattan on business and would go to the original JR store...very cool). Now in the desert I find that I like to stop by the local Tinder Box.....good people, decent selection and they owner always piles on discounts which help bridge the pricing I could get from Famous or other online retailers.

Plus, I just enjoy picking out the cigars myself...much more interesting than clicking on ADD TO BASKET....

Re: I Love My Local Shop!

The Shops here in Pittsburgh are like that for the most part.

I go to 2 in particular that are just wonderful shops and I get hooked up all the time. Then there is one that tries to rip you off wvery once in while. it is crazy.

Try Stag Tobacco on the outskirts of Metro Center Mall (I-17 and Dunlap). Huge smoking room, huge selection, and free cigars every 2nd Saturday.

I just moved from PHX, and it was only 2 miles from my house.

Hey...maybe I could send you some bucks and you can mail some smokes my way...selection and prices here in Flagstaff are limited.

Re: I Love My Local Shop!

I was just at my local shop and the guy just gifted me a Don Linos Africa. Can't beat the awesome selection and great customer service. And yes the characters that walk in are pure comedy just like someone else had said before. I usualy work the afternoon shift, but whenever i do the day my lunch hour is spent at my favorite shop which is conveniently located two minutes away.
