Camacho Corojo Monarcha Maduro

I just want to post this tribute to the Camacho Corojo Monarca Maduro. What an excellent cigar! I bought one of these from my local B&M about 6 months ago; I liked it so much, I went back and bought another one and haven't had one since ...that is until today.
I gotta say this is one of the best non cuban cigars I have smoked. I recently bought or won (from CBid) a fiver of them, and just fired one up today; I let em rest for a couple of weeks.
I was cooking some spare ribs on the grill at the request of headquarters, and seized the opportunity to fire up a monarca and grab a dark beer (Samuel Adams Honey Porter). It smelled of barnyard before I clipped the cap, once done I tasted a sweet spicey flavor before I lit it.
I fired up the grill and went to work on both the meat and the cigar.
I was immediately with a well balanced smoke tasting of spice; coffee and dark unsweetened chocolate all within the first 2 inches. I went to the grill and paid some attention, then it was back to my cigar. Oh man it then seemed to mellow and the taste smoothed out to a coffeelike taste with hints of pepper. The second third was more coffee and an intense chocolate flavor with a creamy spicey undertone. The final third was exceptional, there was an earthy twangy taste which was unmistakeable, and a creamy smoothness showed itself as well. I wondered if this could get any more complex This cigar was that good all the way down to an inch before I let it lie. Wow! The ribs were good and so was the cigar; especially when coupled with the Sammy dark brew.
If there were no cuban cigars, I realized I could content myself with smokes like Camacho. Now I really like Pepins stuff, but I can make lots of room in my humis for Camacho Corojos. They have body, flavor, complexity and are extremely long on taste.

Re: Camacho Corojo Monarcha Maduro

I've got a box of these I picked up at a pretty good price from C-bid (it's been a while & I can't remember how much).

I agree, it's a nice cigar.

Re: Camacho Corojo Monarcha Maduro

Oh yeah, I can relate. Great cigar, probably the best of the Camacho crew! My first experience with a Corojo was quite accidental & very welcome. I got 4 of these as part of a sampler (24 cigars & Otterbox) last September.
Never heard of these or really cared. Then about a month later, I was taking the dog & my girlfriend (in that order) to walk downtown during Octoberfest. I grabbed this smoke out of the freezerdor, figuring 'ah, this will do for a walk downtown'. HOLY COW! When I lit this bad boy up, I knew I made a mistake!! This was no walking around gar, this was a sit-on-the-back-deck-and contemplate-the universe's-follies cigar, for sure!!
Great draw, good burn even walking around, and a GREAT collection of flavors in a kick-azz combination! Never too harsh, & a definite tang of Cuba in the mix. Awesome smoke!

Thanks for the review. Is there a natural version as well? I think that is all I see at the cbid site.

I too loved the one of these I have had. So many cigars so little time.

I am a camacho slut. I love everything camacho, but pepin comes in a close close second.

I also am a big fan of Camacho. I received an email from them today introducing their new Triple Maduro. Can't wait to try it.
