Re: Thompson Cigar member?

Never had any problems with Thompsons but have gotten some crap from them. When I was new to cigars I got a catalog and saw "lowest price ever, any size $29.00 a box". They looked good and dark and tasted like crap. I think there still might be a couple hiding in the bottom of 1 of my humi's. I think they were called Jalapa. They seem high on premiums.

Re: Thompson Cigar member?

When i started this tread I was not trying to start a bash Thompsons.
I understand that a lot of folks either hate them or love them . I have not got anything from them yet to compare or have a opinion one way or another just was wondering what the man posted and the response he got from the members. The only thing I can say is they have been around a long time even before the Internet was a household option.

Re: Thompson Cigar member?

My wife actually surprized me about a year ago. She is adamantly against my cigar smoking so it came as a great shock when a box showed up at my front door from Thompson. There were 25 or 50 house sticks and an aluminum travel case with a cheap cutter and a cheap punch with key chain. She was really proud of herself and I tried not to disappoint her.

However, she caught me going to my B&M and getting other cigars when I still had about 35 of the Thompsons left. She asked me and I told her how much I appreciated the effort, but I was just having a hard time looking forward to smoking them. I did brag on the case, however, until the foam lining started coming unglued. I tried giving some of the sticks to my son in law, but he got wise and I've still got two of them sitting in their own space in my humi. Even my son in law won't touch them anymore.

P.S. We do get their catalog and I like reading it.

Re: Thompson Cigar member?

I don't like the house brands. That's just my honest opinion on the ones I have tried. There may be a good one out there, but I haven't tried it. I do like their accessories. I have the Valiant humidor which I love the look of, and it holds humidity very well. I didn't care for the shipping time it took from order placed to product received...11 days first trime, and close to that the second time. I've not been bombarded with catalogs either. I receive just as many from other retailers every month. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in on my experiences. Like many just starting out, I saw a Thompson's catalog somewhere and it's been a downhill slide from there.

Not trying to bash the company but the house brands do leave a lot to be desired.
