A Cigar Puffing Question

I am curious as to how you guys smoke your stogies? Do you take long slow drags off of the cigar, do you take a short puff, do you take multiple short puffs, ect? I am just curious if there an optimal way to smoke. I generally take long puffs and get a mouthful of smoke.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

I usually take a couple of short puffs then a long draw. I don't know if this is "correct" or not but it works for me.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

One long draw every 30sec to minute. I used to "puff, puff, draw" but found that the smokes were going too fast and the flavor seems the same to me both ways.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

Now that this question is on the table... I kind of have adapted a smoking method/habit in which I do a quick purge before I draw one short, then one long. I tend to like my cigars to draw loose...Does anyone think this is effecting the quality of my smokes? Am I losing some extra flovor by doing this....They seem to taste fine to me.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

For the way I draw depends on the ring gauge of the cigar. If I'm smoking large ring gauge sticks like Churchills or robustos then I'll take a couple long draws to heat up the stick alittle and enjoy the flavors.

But if I'm smoking smaller ring gauges (PC's, panatelas...) then I'll take one steady draw trying now to draw too hard. This way I enjoy the flavor profile of the stick without overheating it and loosing some of the flavor.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

I blow out, then take a big long draw, then I exhale a long one and a few short ones to get all the smoke out of my mouth.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

I think that you should smoke which ever way makes the experience most pleasureable to you. No cigar tastes exactly the same to any group of people so you have to do what's right for you.

Having said that, I like to take two short puffs and then draw when I first light up. After the cigar is about half way done I sometimes change to a single draw. It all depends on the cigar I'm smoking at the time and how it burns, feels, tastes and also factors like how likely is the cigar to go out on me.

Finally, when I do take the "keeper" draw, I tend to release it slowly and toward the end of the expelling of smoke I slightly inhale the small amount of remaining smoke and quickly expell it through my nose. I find that I get a lot more flavor this way.

Now when I say "inhale" I don't mean inhale like with a cigarette but rather drawing the smoke just slightly into my throat so that I can expell it through my nose.

Since I also smoke cigarettes I do take a little bit of smoke into my lungs but this doesn't happen more than 2 or 3 times during a one hour cigar.

That's the way I do it and I hope this info is helpful to you.

1 puff every minute or so, otherwise it will go out or overheat.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

I enjoy my cigars full-bodied; you know Arturo Fuente Anejos. I take approximately 56 long draws per minute and then I kill over from a stroke...

Seriously now, it depends on the RG and I fill gently enhale to pull in a full mouth full and exhale so I am able to savor the flavors that dance upon my tongue.

Re: A Cigar Puffing Question

I don't do long draws because I can't roll around that much smoke in my mouth and enjoy it.

I've started taking a short to medium draw every minute or so.
