Lol...well said sir.
I think the process of trying to discover that cheap cigar that you could smoke again and again, and actually enjoy is an exciting journey. I often think I've found it...but I keep on trying the cheapies, determined to find better.

Like others have said, though...buying 'dog rockets' is usually accidental.

I don't. But then again as noted upthread one person's dog rocket is another's go-to smoke.

Do others do this? If so, what is your "buck-a-stick" gar?
Dog rockets are generally an accident Life is too short for bad gars. Now cheap gars are a different thing. Remember, cheap does not necessarily equate to bad. Buy a few from the bundle, if they're good, load up!

Personally, I don't smoke a cigar unless I know I'll enjoy it. I don't buy anything that I would think is bad, no matter how much of a bargain.

Well put.
I used to buy cheapies. If they're inter-mingled with good smokes, it's SO hard to enjoy the cheap ones...
Life's too short to smoke crap. I'd much sooner smoke 1/2 as many good/great cigars.

Are you sure? I believe Holt's does. You might want to call and check. It's listed on their website that they do. I believe a few of the others do as well.

Re: Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

not on purpose, but i do get a decent amount from my step dad, who only buys cigars that are under 2 bucks, and i get a few from trades also, but i don't go out and buy cheep cigars. however, there are a couple brands on CI that are pretty cheep and i like for mowing the lawn and golfing

Re: Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

I'm of the camp that says, smoke everything you can get your hands on. If it turns out that you don't like it, well, you learned.

I have to be honest with you. I have yet to buy a real cigar (not a Phillie, etc) that I truely hated. I have had cigars I didn't really care for, but it wasn't as if I was disgusted or anything. Also, I stay away from cigars just because they are a bargin. So I say pick it up and give it a try if you really want.

However, if you keep telling yourself they're going to be dog rockets, they will be. Self-fulfilling prophecy, you know? As said before, don't buy stuff you know you won't enjoy. Life's too short to smoke gars you don't like.

Also, as suggest before, go to the cheap smokes thread. You'll find tons of stuff there for cheap.

IMO there are way too many very good $1 - $1.50 sticks to ever buy dog rockets. The Flor de Oliva bundles are good. The JR Alts can be good (certain ones). Sancho Panza can be had for not much more than this. Etc.

The only time I buy junk is when I get a grab bag. And then I know it's going to contain some dog rockets but some good ones too and I'm like a kid in a candy store. I love the surprise.

Ya know - this really depends on how many you smoke a week. If I only smoked once or twice a week, then screw it - I'd buy only top shelf smokes.

But I don't - I go through a handful each and every day (5 today as of this writing) so I need smokes in different levels of price as I don't wish to smoke up $100 and more each day. Heck if I was gonna do that I might as well switch to crack - LOL

So - it's really whatever works out best for you.
