Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

I was considering picking up this 25$ Nicaraguan bundle from my local B&M, I have seen a few people get them so they can't be too aweful. I thought that they would be good to have around as yard gars or for camping. I don't want to be pushing a mower with a Gurkha Regent in my face if you know what I mean.

Do others do this? If so, what is your "buck-a-stick" gar?

I don't buy dog rockets on purpose. I do buy rather inexpensive quality sticks to smoke around the yard and while driving though.

For me those would be the #84 Connies, LVH and several Tampa Sweetheart numbers.

I tend to load up on the Famous Nic 4k...last I got 4 bundles of 25 @ $19.95 + shipping. For more durability I go for El Mejor Espresson from the devil site...right at $1/per. But I personally don't think these qualify as dog rockets, more like very good bargains. But that's just me

Bill speaks the truth. All your research is done, and (almost) everythig you need to know about finding inexpensive smokes is right here. Don't waste your money on something nobody has recomended. Stick to the recs in the above thread and you will be very happy - my (and Bill's)

Can't go wrong with these either, all good, but on that list I'm partial to the #84 Maduros.

Also like the El Mejor Espresso Evan suggests. I haven't had the Nicaraguan 4000 he mentions (From Famous Smoke shop), but the 3000 is my favorite bundle cigar.

Cheers,

What are they called, if you remember? And who are they made by? They might be good smokes. I would ask if they have any singles. They might even open a bundle up and give you one (if they are cool like my cigar guy ).

Black Pearl by La Perla Habana
Every now and then they have email specials on them for about $1.40 a stick.

Its a really really good cigar at that price.

Re: Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

Like the man said. I don't buy "Dog Rockets" on purpose. While true dog rockets can be found in the yard, it is my understanding that a "Yard Gar" is not a "Dog Rocket". One persons "Yard Gar" is another persons "Dog Rocket" and vica-versa.

While I am at it I would like to note that the passion we carry for our current set of "go to" cigars can easily be seen when one refers to those lovelies in the humidor as "my babies". Look at the way we care and treasure them. With this in mind one can better understand how heated it can get when one person calls another persons "baby" ugly. Generaly speaking, to a parent their children are never ugly.

With that said, would anyone care for a Highlander Churchill?

I love this place.

I stay away from "dog rockets" but for times like that I pick up "value smokes" like Nestors!

The nic 3000's from famous gets my vote, it's one of the top pick on my list for bundles as well as the taampas sweethearts.

Re: Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

So is the strategy that you get like an everyday smoke thats super cheap and then you have special smokes? I was thinking I'd simply smoke whatever I liked for the most part.

That's exactly what you should do. Smoke what you like. But unless you can afford to burn a $5-10-20 bill every time you want a cigar, you must hunt the ever-elusive "good cheap cigar". It's fun, trust me.
Well, it's not so fun when you get a dog rocket. But it is awesome to light up a cigar that you only paid $2 for and find that it's actually a good cigar. And there are quite a few good $2 cigars out there, and I myself really enjoy hunting them down.

Re: Does Everyone Buy Dog Rockets?

One Gorillas dog rocket is another Gorillas Opus, Padron, Monte, etc to a point. I think there are some "cigars" out there that are false advertised by being called cigars in the first place, but I guess somebody must like em, because they keep making them. Smoke what you like, and like what you smoke....Everything else is just trivial.
