Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?
the quest for cc's is really great once you get into it, but you NEEED to make sure you can spot the fakes from the real ones, and be confident in your knowledge. I won't go over the diffrent ways because they have all been posted before, personally if i saw a B&M selling fakes to someone, and they hung around and smoked it i would strike up a conversation with him and probably tell him how to spot fakes from reals, not pointing as his cigar but just trying to be informative to him. I like the suggestion about saying "these days its hard to tell" and also for the guys that don't know how to spot the fakes yet their are really plenty of NC's that are extremely good and can be had without saying "is this real? did i pay too much? I think its real? should i like it since its cc? Is this what the "best" cigar is suppose to taste like?" All of these are things that don't have to be worried about when buying a nice NC, like a padron, that no matter how many cc's i have, I will always come back to padron!
sorry for the long post ![]() |

When you've got a cigar like the Padron 1926 #6 (which people will pay $20 for that lil cigar) your gonna have a market ripe for fakes. Anyone that assumes that only Cuban cigars are counterfited needs to wake up the next time their buddies friend has a great deal on a box of Pam 64's that his uncles cousin bought in Miami! ![]()

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?
I like this approach...... Give the cigar with nothing said about the suspected fake, if they notice a difference in flavor maybe thats the opprotunity to comment. If they dont notice, I'd just let it slide. Just curious, the B/M was not selling these cigars I hope, any B/M that would sell the forbidden fruit, would be on my list of shops to avoid. I occasionaly will gift my friend at the B/M a cuban cigar, but I would never smoke one in his shop and neither will he, I know it's silly but they are illegal, I would not want to jepordize his business. |

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?
great topic and i have two separate "incidents" to relate:
- my former boss, who is even more a very good friend, had mentioned many times about his connection for ISOMs (i've moved many miles away, so was unable to see him for quite some time). a few years ago, we had a get-together and he showed up with, yes you guessed it, the glass-top box of cohibas... also, he had some single hoyo de monterreys that i was unsure of. i was floored. ultimately, i've never said anything about it because A) he can afford the cost of these fakes, B) he's only an occasional smoker and C) i think it would break his heart to discover they were fakes. many of you may not agree with me on this, but you really need to know my friend. believe me, this is the right way to handle it. - sometime last year, i was in a local B&M that i only occasionally visit. while in the humidor, i notice tucked WAY in the back, all the way on the top shelf, a couple of boxes of... well, the yellow and black with the little indian girl should give you an idea. i ask the owner if he can show me these cigars (needed a step ladder to reach them). he pulls them down and they were esplendidos in tubes! sold in 3 packs! lol. he was pretty proud of them and i tried to explain, after verifying on this forum that legitimate examples of this cigar in this presentation do not exist, that they were indeed fakes. he kind've just shrugged and said his cousin in toronto would get them from a good "source". needless to say, i don't buy from this guy anymore. $15 per stick, btw... |

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?
I couldn't be certain that a cigar was fake merely by watching someone smoke it.

Just remember once you press the "submit reply" button you can never take it back.
I have to think about "How Important Is It"

Don't post it, you will start a frenzy and a mob after whomever is reponsible or MAY be responsible for the fakes. You never know until you are proof positive.
