Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

I come by someone every once in a while with a fake @ the B&M, they seem so proud of it I don't say anything. Of course these are the ones that are easy to spot, bands look bad, poor construction, etc.

Recently I've also noticed on this site when people post up pics of their cigars there are some that really lead me to believe they are fake. I don't want to be an a*****e as they may already know. for instance I've seen some cohibas that look like something I would roll and some Eslpindido tubos. As far as I know these only came in Cardboard 5x3 boxes or 25 count cedar boxes.

I guess I would want someone to tell me if I had fakes, as well, I hate to support the people who are making these.

At the B&M's, no. It'll only lead to a confrontation that won't be worth it in the end. (Unless the person asks)

On here, yes. People who post pictures are inviting comments as to their authenticity.

I suppose you should proceed with caution here as it's easy to me misunderstood on the internet.

I think I would want to know. If I got taken for a couple of hundred bucks would definitely want to find out.

I agree, if you go off and try to tell them at the B&M that their fake, it might cause some problems, but if you find some on here that people post pictures of you should probably tell them.

Basically. Figure it this way, in a B&M surrounded by very knowledgeable cigar smokers it could be more than a little embarrassing to have someone tell you that something they are smoking a fake.

Now if I was in the B&M and the guy mentioned that the cigar wasn't very good I might offer up the suggestion that it might be a fake. I'd probably also throw in a "It's so hard to tell these days". So they don't feel like complete idiots.

But that is as far as I would ever take it.

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

The store owner likely knows they are fakes, AND he shouldn't have them anyway. Customers are another matter. I wouldn't hesitate to politely PM someone posting here and express my doubts, I wouldn't call them out in a post though.

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

I proudly posted pictures of my purchases from the DR, and was quickly, though I thought politely told they were fakes. It hurts for awhile, mainly because you feel stupid. But now I'm learning how to tell the difference, and will know alot more when I go back. I was glad people told me, and all were very helpful, and compasionate.

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

I've fortunately never bought a faux box of ISOM's or NC's but I've had my fair share of fake singles and gifts from time to time.

It obviously depends on the situation. If I was in a B&M and some nice gentleman that I Just met fired up an obviously fake Monte #2 I probably wouldn't say anything. Definitley not in front of others as that would truly be lacking class and tact.

As for people posting fakes here.......I think they need to be informed asap.

I've seen some pretty awesome fakes of late(the Cohiba Piramides EL being the best example) & some excellent fake Pam Serie 26 on feebay.

True Story.....1 time on a buisness trip in Az this nice older dude was smoking a rank ass faux Cohiba so I gifted him a real Bolivar..hehe. So many of these fakes on ebay are so obvious shit that it's downright pathetic.

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

If it's over the Internet this may be something you may wish to deal with through a PM, especially if the person believes them to be the real thing. Explain why you believe them to be less than legit, instead of saying "dude you got screwed" The person may appreciate the discretion used instead of this revelation coming out in front of everyone.

Without naming names, if you make a trip through cigar photos>cigar accessories you'll see a few that are pretty obvious. Thanks for the replies on this tricky subject.

Yes, however, I would like the screwee to post the info once the humility is over. Thus, being able to worn fellow Gorillas. I personally would not take offense, but that is just me.

Re: Should you tell someone they have fakes ?

I'm not at a place in the hobby where I'm persueing ISOM's. I just dont knwo enough about the subject yet. But when I get there I'm counting on brothers like you to lead me to the right place so by all means tell me. as long as its not something along the lines of "hey doofus those are fakes" I coudl live with it.

And if I enjoyed the sticks I'd keep right on smoking them and enjoying them.
