I really need to start thinking more like some of you guys. I seem to be the opposite way, in that I go to the cooler with the intention of smoking one of my 'good' sticks (not that I have many), but often end up smoking a cheapie, thinking that I ought to save a good one for a special occasion.....but this is a personality trait I'm trying to overcome, and I guess the only way is to buy more 'good' cigars.

I never get the guys who squirrel away their cigars for some unknown date and/or event. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed, i'll smoke what I can today.

I know this is silly but for some reason I won't smoke a very "Top Shelf" single because I'm always waiting for that "perfect time" to really enjoy it. Yet I have no idea what or when that perfect moment will come.

At least my best is aging so if/when I smoke it at that "perfect time" it should be incredibly good.

I only smoke at most, 1-2 cigars in a normal week. Most often, its only 1 late night on Saturday after my wife falls asleep. Thats one of the best moments of the week for me as I can sit alone and concentrate on the cigar and think about whatever is on my mind in peace. Since I cherish this moment in my week so much, I opt to only smoke the good stuff. Of course, the advantage of smoking 1, maybe 2 a week means you can spend all your cigar money on nice premium smokes without breaking the bank (or in my case, my wife taking out an insurance policy and tossing me out the window 8 stories down onto the sidewalk!).

Re: Saving your best, or good cigars for special occasions? (like Thursday)

I have the top shelf in my humi full of what I call "Top Shelf Smokes" (original huh ). My only issue is time. I don't have enough of it. When I smoke it is usually on the way home in the car or with my buddies at our weekly get-together. I can't say I will truly be able to appreciate one of my Anejos or PAMs when slamming beers or watching traffic.

When and if I can carve out the time, I'm going to start powering through that shelf. Now that it is warm out and not as windy (in my area); I might have to do the late-night torching.

I don't have anything too rare, but the ones I do have are still sitting, awaiting the day I will SSSSSMOKE em'... Otherwise, all is fair game if I have the time to enjoy them!

Doc I'm actually in Pleaston for a couple of days and was wondering where can I find a place to smoke indoors? Does such a place even exist nearby?

I haven't got a whole lot of rare stuff, so when I do I save 'em. This means that I have some Opus and some "special" sticks that I'm hanging onto, but I usually have specific events in mind for all these.

The only stick I have that I think would be considered a "special occasion" smoke is the AF Anejo 49 that Norm sent me.. It scares me!!! so I don't know when I'll smoke it? But as for saving a stick for a special occasion, not really... I just make sure I'm not sick, have time, and in good company to really enjoy it!!

If I wake up dead tomorrow - I can't tell you how pissed off I will be! That said I don't really save any particular cigars with the exception of two Opus. I don't like Opus but am hoping that by the time I get done aging them - I will. I do on the other hand ration some of my favorite cigars, i.e. smoke them sparingly so I don't go through them too fast.

I smoke whatever I feel like that day.
During the winter smoking outside, is the only time I will grab an inexpensive smoke on purpose. That way if it just gets too damn cold. I don't feel to bad about putting it down.

Re: Saving your best, or good cigars for special occasions? (like Thursday)

What I smoke and what I save for "special" occasions depends more on time than anything else. There are a few sticks I am saving for important moments in my life. Those are sticks I may never get a chance to smoke again, and are very special to me. Others I save only because I want to have the dedicated time to really experience the cigar and not rush the moment. These are the gifted sticks that I might come across again, but have never smoked. Then there are the sticks that I smoke on days off or in the evenings, and my daily cigars that I really won't be super pi$$ed if I have to leave them.

Re: Saving your best, or good cigars for special occasions? (like Thursday)

I save some for certain occasions. I have a lot of pairs that I will smoke with my good buddy who gave me many of them. If I pickup only a few ISOMs, I'll save them for something special. That may just be a Sunday afternoon I can sit and enjoy it.

I enjoy everything I smoke, or I hope too, but sometimes I'll want extra dedication, the correct mindset, etc to burn a special one.
