Burning harsh and fast.....

Lately everything that I have been smoking has been burning harsh, hot and fast. I always smoke an assortment of cigars, both ISOM and Dominican, so I think the sticks are OK...It must be me!

Any ideas?

Re: Burning harsh and fast.....

My palate goes through spells where everything tastes the same.......it might be bitter, or cloyingly sweet, or something else, but if your smokes are burning "hot" & "fast", I would say check the humidity on the humidor, or check the calibration on your hygrometer.

If I were to fancy a guess, it would be that they are too dry.

Humi too low is an easy fix. I find that smoking outside in the winter causes the sticks to seem harsh and fast because I power herf them. BRRRR

Does the same thing happen when you smoke in the car or indoors?

I thought this at first, too. So I let my humi rise to about 72%...same result...

It does, but my house is all open, and my car doesn't have a roof or windows

Re: Burning harsh and fast.....

If adjusting RH has not helped then you are probably smoking your cigar too fast. I think that if you puff several times with a short interval your cigar will get hot, the smoke will then turn harsh against your palate. Specially with short cigars. I try to puff once every minute or two. Of course i don't time this. Take (or make) your time to enjoy your smoke.

Re: Burning harsh and fast.....

Like others have said check the humidor and slow down your smoking. Another tip would be to purge your cigar when smoking it. Usually about 1/2 way through and then again about 3/4 of the way through. That should help with the bitter taste you are claiming to get.
