La Gloria Cubana Series R

Maybe one of you guys with more experience can help me out. My next box purchase is looking like it will be La Gloria Cubana Series R #5(5.5 x 54). My humidor told me to acquire some more full-bodied sticks.

I've looked in the review section but didn't come up with much. Can anyone tell me about these cigars? Are they any good?

One last thing. Is Hoyo de Monterrey comparable to La Gloria Cubana?

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

I like the LGC Serie R a lot, although I would recommend trying any cigar before buying a whole box. They are rich in flavor and have a nice amount of black pepper flavor.

I think the HdMs are considerably milder than the LGC Rs, HdMs are good, but I would take the LGC if givent the choice.

I have had a couple of the HdM Excailber's(sp) and really liked them. They are a good medium bodied stick that will find their way into my Humidor some day soon. I have not tried the LGC's but will now make a point to do so.

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

I've had alot of the Serie R. They are fantastic fullbodied smokes after they've been aged for a while, but can be very harsh if young.
I'd say they are one of the perfect domestic cigars to buy by the box and hide in your humidor for a while.

If you are just forging your way into the full bodied area you should really try just one before purchasing. I smoke almost nothing but full bodies and anything in the LGC Serie R above #4 puts me on my ass. They are really powerful. You should try the #4. Great little cigar.

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

The LGC Serie R #4 with a maduro wrapper is my favorite right now. These are powerful little sticks and can have quite a kick. I'd take everyones advice and try a few singles first. I can't comment on the natural because I've never tried them. Like was said, they can be a little harsh right out of the box. But after sitting in the humi for a bit, I think they are one of the best smokes around.

Good advice given. Don't buy a box unless you have tried them. Need any Pucks? If you havn't tried, I've got LGC SR #5 and Gan Habano # 5's - strong and # 3's Smoother that I bought in July. All are getting nicer than when fresh. PM me your addie and I'll send to you.

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

Smoked one of these last summer. very good, full body. Would highly reccomend trying single stick before buying a box just so you know if you like that full of a body. These are also available in a maduro that I have not yet tried.

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

These are very good sticks. I had my first LGC Maduro the other night and it was quite strong...tasty, but strong. I also recommend that you try one before buying a whole box. I've got several Series R in the humi that are resting and I can't wait to smoke them!

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

Has anyone actually tried those enormous Series R Edicion Limitadas? I've had 3 in the Humi since Christmas and figure they probably should sit for a year. Just wondering whether they are different from the standard series R apart from size.

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

LGC Serie R (maduro) are one of my go-to sticks. I have the 4, 5 and a box of 6s as well....all smoke cool, tons of billowy smoke with an easy draw and a decently consistent burn. Good flavor too. I like best with bourbon, a splash of bitters, a splash of club soda, and ice.

yum!

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

Oops...forgot to address the other question about HdM....I find these only OK. They are usually only smoked by me now when I find myself in a hotel bar that has a humidor...HdM is always present in hotels but I have yet to see an LGC in one.

Not that HdM is a bad cigar, but I just don't see the allure and it is not a box in my coolerdor today.....

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

I picked up and LGC #5 Mad today and smoked it over lunch. I have to say I really enjoyed it. From the light and for the first 1/3 it was not as strong as it looked like it would be. The flavor was nice with quite a bit of pepper and some hints of expresso. The burn was flawless and held the ash right down to the band. The flavor really built up for the last half and I was glad I had a bite to eat.

I would recommend this cigar and I will also pick up some more once I can afford to by a box...

Re: La Gloria Cubana Series R

LGCS Rs are great smokes. The #5's were the second box I ever ordered. As long as you like strong smokes I don't think you can go wrong with them. But I would definitely give a couple a whirl before making the plunge. Another cigar along the same line and slightly milder would be the Punch Gran Puro Rancho, very good cigar and near impossible to beat for the money.

If you like full body cigars then you should like these. I like the #4 maduro, what a nice little dark kick in the butt this thing is.
