I leave the band on until it's about to get toasted. Only to ensure that if the cap falls off, the cigar wont unravel.

In addition, you may not want to rip the band of immediately if you are at an event or around a rep. Some may take it as disrespectful, or basically you don't want people to know what you're smoking.

Re: Banded or Unbanded?

You need to warm up the wrapper first my friend. Light, smoke for about 5 minutes let the oils start to flow and then rip it off.

Unbanded is the only way to go. A naked cigar is beautiful, a banded cigar is screaming for validation from strangers.

My thoughts exactly. Though keeping the band on at an event makes sense.

Re: Banded or Unbanded?

Yeah I'm with you on that. You want to show the event sponsors that you are supporting them.

probably the only time I would do it.

Re: Banded or Unbanded?

I leave the band on for a bit and let it get warmed up before I remove it. I too have ripped a wrapper or two by taking it off before smoking, so I stopped doing that. I also like to save my bands, If I don't let it warm up, sometimes it is hard to get the band to come apart without it tearing off part of the ends where the glue is used to keep the band together.
