Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

OK -

The newsstand across the street from my work has a box of Anejo #55's that They are asking basically MSRP for. My inclination is to RUN to the bank and buy these, but could someone please let me know what these are actually WORTH. I am having that "too good to be true" feeling, and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing.

1) The store is very up-and-up, and I know the owners would not perpetrate fraud, but what are the chances they are fake?
2) is there any way with these to tell when they were produced?
3) could some of the more knowledgeable around here help me with an estimated value on these cigars, please? I know MSRP was about $9 per stick, but all I see them for on the web is closer to $30.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

If you could get a box they run in the neighborhood of:
Fuente Anejo 55, box of 25 for $165.00 ($6.6/cigar)

That was offered by Smokeall on this year's x-mass release. Smokeall offered them on a lottery basis. Of course that is w/o taxes. I'm not sure what the tax is in "Fantasy Land", but here is a .pdf link to figure it out. http://www.tobaccofreekids.org/resea...s/pdf/0169.pdf

Low to no chance that they are fake.
Prolly are this year's release -- they tend to fly off the shelves of retailers.

If you can afford them -- buy all you can

Re: Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

My shop sells the Anejos for between 16 and 20 bucks depending on the size/shape. I believe I paid $18 a piece for my #55s. I believe the internet is catering to people who don't have a local shop that carries the Anejo. Given that these cigars are limited to one seasonal release a year (Christmas) they are very hard to find. That said, the ones I've had from this past Christmas tasted very young and harsh. Others will tell you they haven't been nearly as good as they were the frst year they were released.

If it were me, I'd buy the box if it worked out to be 12-15 bucks a stick. Otherwise I'd pass and order up a box of ISOMs...or two

Re: Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

For Reference here are the 2004 MSRPs on Añejo , Excluding Tax

No. 46 5.625X46 6.50
No. 48 7X48 8.00
No. 49 7.625X49 8.75
No. 50 5.25X50 7.25
No. 55 6X55 9.00

Check if they are an Authorized Fuente Retailer. The people selling Añejo for $30 a stick usually are not.

I will happily buy several of the Añejo sticks off of you to cushion the blow of the purchase.

Never had an Anejo before. If you do get a hold of them and wouldn't mind parting with one, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

txmatt can vouch for me, as I'm his cigar launderer.

As another resident of the D/FW area, I too, have never had an Anejo. I would also love to buy one from you, if you were willing to sell two fo them.

Let us both know....Thanks!!

Actually Matt, I have seen hideous prices at Fuente direct stores. One is within a few blocks of their offices in Tampa. I went to buy some Don Carlos a while back and they wanted like 12 a stick for the robustos. I had to get Wayne Suarez to call em so theywould sell em to me at MSRP. (And the Fuente people go to that shop so they know the prices)

But there is a full box of Anejo Sharks at Two Brothers in Plano Rick wants to sell the whole thing for what he paid for it (He bought it off someone whose wife just found out he had purchased an expensive box.)

Re: Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

Yeah, I like two brothers a lot. Rick was asking for $500 out of that box of Sharks he has last time I inquired. The 77s are missing from my list I just noticed, will have to find MSRP on those, I think its 11 or 12 though.

Just because the fellow paid too much for them doesn't mean I am going to . Its great he is trying to help out a customer that way though. Two Brothers has a great stock of La Aurora 100 Anos, get 'em if you haven't had one yet.

Re: Need help - Box of Anejo 55s

Update:

I bought the box and split it up among some of the people who inquired here (first come first serve). In case anyone is still wondering, the stote I found these at has been an authorized Fuente retailer for a very long time, but because they are not primarily a cigar shop (and there is a cigar shop a block up the street) they don't get much traffic for better smookes.

The owner told me he had about ten boxes of Opus in 2002, and it took him almost a year to get rid of them!

Anyway, he sells what he gets at very reasonable prices (especially considering NJ taxes!), so I let him know that any 'special' fuentes he gets to let me know. If anything else shows up, I will post it to see if anyone is interested.
