For curious friends?

I find that a lot of my friends are curious about cigars...so I have been keeping a few inexpensive and mild cigars on hand to offer to them. some of which are way too mild for my taste...i tend to keep about 20-30 spares for friends...

I keep stuff like:

Oro Cubano Anniversario
Indian Tabac Limited reserve

stuff like that.... do any other gorillas have the same habit of doing so? and if so...what do you keep on hand to introduce new folks to the world of good smokes?

Re: For curious friends?

i think with new guys, they envision large sticks. So I start them out on small sticks with lots of flavor, and go from there. Milder the better.

Re: For curious friends?

Of course.

I am not going to give premiums to a first time smoker or someone who is just an occasional cigar smoker.

I have Nic 3000s to give to them. This way it doesnt bother me looking at 1/2smoked cigars in the ashtray.

I also usually have a few mld NCs on hand or Por Larranga Panatellas if they prefer a smaller cigar.

Re: For curious friends?

Well one smoke that is a definite noob smoke is the CAO Gold. Mild and inexpensive.

I don't keep any on hand, but I may start now that I have a humi to accommodate the hobby.

Yep. I refuse to start someone with one of my favorite cigars, for several reasons.

1. I typically smoke stronger cigars, and I don't like cleaning up puke on the back porch.

2. I feel bad saying this I don't like the idea of wasting a complex smoke on someone who can't appreciate it.

3. I rarely ditch a cigar before the last 2" or so, I'd probably have a stroke if I saw someone grind out a $10 cigar after smoking an inch.

Re: For curious friends?

There are a lot of inexpensive good cigars you can start your buddies on. Perdomo Frescos, Curly Heads, and Joya de Nicaragua (only if they're your arch rival or slept with your girl )

Re: For curious friends?

Tampa Sweethearts
Macanudo
Even CAO Golds.

Good economical smokes. I wouldnt touch the Macanudo but I always keep a couple in my humi for the casual smoker. TS and CAO Golds are solid, cheap smokes that I'd smoke, so even better.

Re: For curious friends?

When my buddys stop buy they like to check out the humi, and naturaly they want to have a smoke. I give them my 5 vegas or various Gurhka smokes I got from Cbid. I will not give them any of my premium stuff unless they have some experience. I definitly think it is a waste if they have no clue what they are getting into.

Re: For curious friends?

Well, I envy all you guys with lots of friends who want to try cigars. I live in a very small town and have one friend who smokes cigars but he's often quite busy. My son-in-law in Omaha likes cigars so I always some when I visit my daughter or they visit here.

When I lived in Nebraska, I had a Friday afternoon club in my 45x54 airconditioned/heated shop. We'd put up a ping pong table, cover it with a sheet, get the grill out, drink lots of adult beverages and three of the 10-12 of us would have a cigar. This went on for years and is the one thing I miss about Nebraska. It was hard to leave friends of 35 years but I'm glad I moved. Fresh air and low taxes here in Wyoming but, alas, no one to smoke cigars with

My one and only herf, I guess, was when Tripp stopped for a visit. Pretty sad, huh? If anyone stops by for a cigar, I don't have to worry about parting with a "premium" stick. My average cost on 470 sticks is $2.16 per cigar (without shipping) It's good to live the "simple" life (so to speak).

I did that one time, my friend said to me, you don't give me strong cigars, I said your right. He said he didnt like them etc. and said something to the effect of why dont you ever give me something strong? I said O.K. Ill keep it in mind. Next time i saw him LGC Serie R Maddy....i shut him up pretty quick. It was funny IMO

Re: For curious friends?

I don't smoke expensive cigars for the most part myself, generally Gran Habanos and other cigars in the $120 and less per box bracket. That being said, when a friend comes over, I will try to steer him to a cigar in the power range that he has liked in the past. My bad indulgence is keeping a box of Cohiba Black and a box of Cohiba XV's along with other special occasion smokes. Would hate to see one of the real expensive smokes get ground out after a couple of puffs.

Re: For curious friends?

Definitely some milder, larger RG sticks that aren't too pricey would be great. One time I gave a premium stick out and it was only puffed on 3-4 times and discarded
