Ethics and the Forum Buzz

Have you ever discovered a great cigar at a great price and wondered whether you should mention it on the forums for fear that the resulting buzz would keep you from buying said cigar at great price again?

I can't tell you the number of times I discovered a great cigar at a great price, only to see it receive rave reviews on the forums and, soon after, I wasn't able to get the same deal ever again.

(A prime example of this would be the K. Hansoitia Symphony.)

Personally, I think the forums have helped me find so many great cigars at great prices that I feel obligated to "give back" so I always spread the love.

No problem here. I see a great deal, I share it.

Ditto, CS and the Gorillas have helped me so much and shown me so much kindness that if I find a deal I do share it.

Getting sappy here but everyone here at CS is just top notch and a really great bunch of GOTL's Gorillas of the Leaf.

Thank you to all of you and you know who you are.

I have no porblem with it, things cost what the cost and you simply pay the frieght for your vices. But I agree with what your saying; I've seen some buzz the past few weeks here and elsewhere on certain sticks and the cbid numbers on those sticks get so high that I might as well do CI or Famous and get whatever the freebie is (as well as be sure I actually got what I wanted).

I heard the CBid has a GREAT deal on Cremosas... they're cheap and FANTASTIC! Just read the description, you can't go wrong!

Personally, I don't think it's possible to enjoy a cigar if you know you're keeping it from others. The bad vibe alone is enough for the cigar gods to deploy beetles and mold to your humidor!

In other words, you can't fight it because one way or another it is going to come out to the masses. Heck, might as well tell us yourself, because at least they will be thanking you.

If you keep talking up the Cremosas and make them hard to get, Klugs is really going to be po'd at you.

Re: Ethics and the Forum Buzz

Funny you should mention that. I witnessed something similar with the Hansotia X3. This is an absoultely awesome cigar that I used to be able to get for pretty flippin cheap. They are too pricey now, but certainly higher than say a year ago. Now stop keeping secrets from us!

Re: Ethics and the Forum Buzz

You know...

the GREAT thing about spreading the news about a great cigar at a great deal on the forums it that it helps guarantee that the model will SURVIVE - stay around for a while.

If you DON'T spread the news and try to keep it for yourself, there's a good chance that there won't be enough buyers to keep the brand alive. At least, if you spread the love, there will be enough people interested to keep the cigar in production.

I think a good example of this is when I fell in love with the Fittipaldi cigars and posted about them. I'm seeing MORE of them now!

I think creating demand sometimes increases production and distribution which is good for us buyers.
