Dose this make sense?? Am I figuring things out?

Hi,

As you might allready know I'm fearly new here. And I'm trying slowly to figure things out. I think I leand somthing and please tell me if this makes sense,
I learnd the terms, Even Smoke, good draw etc....

I smoked some cigars from the Davidoff store and enjoyed it. While I was smoking I was paying attention to diffrent things I read about. Like even burn, draw, etc...I think everything sounded perfect. I allso bought a perdamo, from a diffrent store in Brooklyn they allso have a humidor room. and for some reason it burnt from one side faster then the other basicly un even. I went back asked the guy he said not every cigar has the same burn its probly this stick. I bought another Ashton from that shop and the same thing happened. I have to say I think the cigars from that shop where a bit harder. Isn't that the idea of keeping it humid to keep the wrap moist? Dose it make sense? can it be that this shop's room is not the greatest? just to mention The Ashton I smoked right out of the room. So it should off been moist?? dose it have to do with that at all.?

Am I on the right track????

I usually think of over moist cigars burning unevenly more often than dry cigars.

I'm a newbie too, but I think even the finest cigars will have sticks that don't burn even every once in a while. That's the nature of a hand made product.
As far as the dryness or moistness affecting the burn, I'm not sure.
Take a look at the hygrometer the next time you are in the store. It might be fun to take your own in the humidor and see what it reads

Overmoist most likely ! Although some cigars just burn unevenly because you just get a bad one !

I have found cigars to burn unevenly if my punch is off center, if I lay it down on the same side all the time or even if I don't rotate it as I smoke it. Lots of things cause uneven burn I think.

Re: Dose this make sense?? Am I figuring things out?

The storage humidity directly effects the taste and burn of a cigar.
There are a lot of personal preferences involved, but I have found higher humidity causes all sorts of burn issues. I would suppose that a really dry stick would suffer problems, also. Most B&M's will try to stay around 70%, which is too high in my opinion, but only marginally so. I do smoke sometimes in a local B&M, and always smoke what I have just bought (support their business). I normally let everything acclimate for several weeks to months in my storage, which is at 65%. I think they taste better a bit drier than the "standard".
Sometimes a stick will just have a bad burn.....not too often for me, but every now and again.

I find that its not very often that i get a "perfect" burn. Usually have to rotate and allow self correction. As long as the burn isnt out of control bad its not something I worry about very often.

Re: Dose this make sense?? Am I figuring things out?

I read somewhere that a cigar burns faster on the bottom than the top. Something to do with ashes and oxygen or something like that. Does anyone know if that is true? If it is, when you get one part burning faster, it is generally better to rotate it to the top, right?

Wind will definitely cause an uneven burn!
