Cigarmony Hygrometers (Any Thoughts?)

Hey peoples,

I'm putting in a bit of an order with Cigarmony, and will likely include 2 hygrometers (one for myself and one for my dad).

I was just going to buy the Western Caliber III Digital Hygrometer but then I noticed the Rectangle Adjustable Digital Hygrometer which includes the Calibration Kit.

I figure I'll need to buy the kit... does anyone know if the kit can be reused?

Also, would anyone weigh in on the Wester Caliber III vs. the Rectangle Adjustable Digi Hygo? I'm assuming the Western Caliber is not adjustable (but I could be wrong).

the kit can be reused, but not indefinately-the western digi isn't adjustable that i know of, though there may be some way to take it apart to adjust-i have the hygroset digi (the other one you're looking at) & love it

That's what I figured... I may just get two of the rectangular ones (like you have) both with the boveda tests. We'll see.

I ordered mine from them and for some reason I didn't receive the kit though I didn't care much cause the salt test is simple as everyone knows, its a great hygro thats for sure. I'm very happy with mine.

Re: Cigarmony Hygrometers (Any Thoughts?)

My thoughts. . . get the western digitals. I have nine of them and they are all within the standard error of +/- 1.

If I am not mistaken, when you calibrate the adjustable ones, you have to do it multiple times. So you leave them in the bag, adjust and repeat until it is correct. Also, you might want to check whether or not you have to recalibrate them every time you change the battery.

I think the calibration kit says it will last 6 months once opened. I actually recommend the kit over the salt test. Although the salt test seems brainless, from my experience, the amount of water you add to the salt is important. The boveda kit is actually a little ghetto, it is just a small 75% boveda packet in a small ziplock bag, but it does work.

Hahaha, thanks everyone for weighing in...

I knew I'd be opening up a can of worms if I asked people to choose between those two products.

I'm still looking for definitive advice (but I think I'm leaning towards the Western Digital) thanks to montecristo#2.

Ditto here. The only thing that I have noticed between all of my Hygro's is that the Western seems to use up batteries faster than the others. Still my favorite though.

Second time today I've linked that

They're independent display sensors, and they're disgustingly accurate.

I feel like I'm following you around today

The OS's are great, especially if you need to monitor multiple locations with one base unit (you can monitor up to 3).

The adjustable hygrometers are very nice too, you just turn the dial left or right to adjust and press the set button. I do recommend recalibrating in case you over shoot or under shoot your target mark.

Hope this helps

Correction, I made an error, I did not order the hygro with a kit, just the hygro alone, but Mark is the man and made sure of that just in case there was a mistake. Buy from this mans company!

I actually calibrated all nine and the finally results looked like this:

(1) - +1/+2
(3) - +1
(2) - perfect
(3) - -1

This was after 24 hours using the boveda calibration kit. All of them were within the +/- 1% error.

If you do decided to grab one of these, I have found they need to be "condition" or broken-in before they respond and read correctly. Basically, place them in your humidor for at least 24 hours before you do the calibration kit. This will save you from posting a rant saying I am full of .

I have also found that the battery that comes with the hygrometer is pretty crappy, so you might want to replace it. When the battery gets low, it will occasionally read something really high or really low for 5-10 seconds. It doesn't really matter unless you are using the memory high/low feature. I have actually only seen this with one of mine and when I changed the battery, it stopped happening.

And no, I do not work for western digital, I am just a satisfied customer. I am actually thinking about getting a wireless digital hygrometer so I can monitor the RH in the bottom of my Vault humidor (also got from Mark) without having to open the lid and remove the shelves.
