I like them, smoked a box of nat robustos last year. They are nic so have that flavor profile, medium body, I got used to the dang flavor and damned if I didn't start smoking them all the time. I had 2 5-7 year old ones in a blind review, and boy oh boy they were smooth as silk and quite tasty. I usually get mine at Mike's, but they increased the price a bit recently I see. SeanGAR |

Re: La Finca Cigars
I've had several that I got in samplers.
Not a bad smoke, but they need some age in the humidor (3mos+) in my opinion, before they can be smoked. A year before they are decent.

Re: La Finca Cigars
La Fincas are what I smoked during college which was also the cigar boom. Through most of the '90s you could get them for $28 or so retail.
In 1998, at the end/height of the boom Cigar Afficianado decided to lower their standards or something: they gave the corona a 91 rating!?!?!?! These are very good cigars but the rating was way too generous. As a result of the rating, S&D economics caused the price of theses sticks to hit $80+ retail; everyone was sick of paying $8 for AF Curlyheads at the time and would jump on a decent $3 stick in a heartbeat. I really slowed down my smoking as a result, and didn't buy any boxes until '92, at which time I got a box of the Coronas again for $26 on the internet. The natural corona has been my favorite in these; with the newer Robusto Black a close second. If Mike's upped their price on them JR has them about the same now but with lower shipping. Give 'em 90 days if you can and they are quite a great stick for the money. -Matt- |

Re: La Finca Cigars
I am out of them right now believe it or not otherwise I would send some your way.
Might I suggest spending $12 (shipped) and get the NATASA Double Corona sampler on JR: http://www.jrcigars.com/index.cfm?pa...&ItemCode=NSDC It includes the following: 2 Flor de Farach Churchill 7.00 x 48 2 Jose Marti Valentino 7.00 x 48 2 La Finca Valentino 6.75 x 48 2 Villar y Villar Valentino 6.75 x 48 For $3 more you can get the Torpedo Sampler of the same brands. I had and didn't like the Jose Marti Maduros, I like the Villar y Villar but not as well as La Finca, I have never tried Flor de Farach. -Matt- |

Re: La Finca Cigars
The Robusto Black is a very good cigar. Short enough to enjoy when you don't have the time, and not pricey at all. When I do have some in my box, I never give them out.

Re: La Finca Cigars
I have smoked the 8 1/2 X 52 Gran Finca. Not a bad smoke.
But if I were going to recommend a cheap, everyday smoke that is of pretty high quality I would recommend Flor de Oliva. Check this place out: http://www.smokeall.com/Categories.asp?CUST_ID=289718&ORDER_NO=161108&saus er=16142&CBRAND=Flor%20de%20Oliva%20Bundles $25.95 a bundle for any size of Flor de Olivas. Like I said, a good everyday smoke. ![]()

I agree with wetterhorn, but the La finca are quite good with age. I think I have one left but only about a month in the humi, I liked the fiver I had..

Re: La Finca Cigars
I bought a box of the Joyas (50 x 6) last June and the box was stamped sept. of '03. Great packaging for the price, by the way! The box was impecably crafted. The first couple months they were decent I would say -- worth the money. They definitely had the nutts and butter flavor that they are consistently noted for, but had a little bit of weediness in there too. Great burn, but the draw was on the firm side of good. I found removing the band was a chore on these (even after it warmed up)... it was really pasted on good, and sometimes took the wrapper with if you tried too hard.
The real story, however is what happened when I forgot about the last one from the box and it fell to the bottom of the humi. I found it one otherwise uneventfull night and noticed that it was looking quite a bit different. With about 5 months on it the golden wrapper was a shade darker, and it had shrunk a little bit, allowing the once tight band to move easily along the stick. I fired it up to find a differnt 'finca' than I remembered -- way better. Though I'm not sure how, the body seemed to have kicked up a notch to the solidly medium-bodied category from being decidedly mild out of the box. It hit me with a really pronounced wood flavor and made me take notice. It actually reminded me a lot of the LGC Wavell Naturals. I haven't been back to La Finca lately because i've been too busy assesing my 'oppurtunity cost' of settling on it as a humidor staple. But now that i've made my rounds, It looks like i'll be coming back. |
