My GF surprised me with a couple birthday sticks! - Dilemma...

Knowing my birthday was coming up, I told my girlfriend to call Bigwavd and he'd tell her what I wanted, what I like, etc. For one reason or another, she didn't do it. I figured she decided against getting me the cigar-related gifts I had asked for and forgot about it. About 10 minutes ago she says she has a gift that she wants to give me that won't wait until morning. I open the gift bag and see two sticks and a box of matches. "You talked to Dave, didn't you?", I said. "No, but I stopped by the cigar shop on the way home from work and they helped me pick out a couple cigars". Oh great, I thought, this is gonna suck.

I look at the first one and it has a cheap looking white label with gold writing, something I've never heard of. I look at the next one and my jaw dropped, it was a Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro Torpedo! How did she know I've been wanting to try one of these for two years? She had to have talked to Dave! Well, she didn't, she just got very very lucky (or was it I who got lucky?) that the guy at the cigar shop recommended it. The other stick is a Jose Seijas Signature 2000. I've never heard of the line or read reviews, I sure hope it's worth the price (she said it was almost as expensive as the Padron).

Anyway, here's my dilemma. Tomorrow's my birthday. I went out to the best meat market in town (Gartner's) and bought myself a nice thick top sirloin, something I've been wanting to splurge on for a long time (poor college student). I also have a bit of Crown Royal (poor college student) and some Blue Moon beer. The only thing missing is a good cigar. I'm dying to try this Padron, but I'm concerned that I'll be disappointed because she just bought it. What do you guys think? Smoke it or let it age? It's not like they're rare or anything, just out of my price range. I'm thinking I should go for it but I'd like to hear comments.

I say go for it! That stick has aged from the factory and if you are lucky your B&M keep a few boxes on hand so this one might have been there for a while. You might as well go for the birthday trifecta, Steak, Beer (might want to go a little darker than Coors BM for this stick), and a great Padron '64!!

Smoke them both! I don't think you need to stress over the decision. If you want to smoke it now then do that. I would not be able to age them unless I had a couple of boxes

Three yes votes is enough for me! I sure hope Dave hasn't ruined me (and this cigar) with his little ISOM pieces of heaven he's always letting me try.

By the way, it was a little over one year ago that I first signed up here. I'll always remember the first time I met a CS guy in person.

I put up a review of the Jose Seijas Signature a while back and I think you're going to love it. It's full-bodied, medium to strong and well constructed. Your GF was lucky to find them, as they're only carried in select shops.

That was voted the #6 cigar in the best cigars of 2006 by Cigar Aficionado. So she did you right. Enjoy.
