Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
I ordered 10 Padilla Miami 8&11 Belicoso, and have kept them in my humi for about 4 months now. I made the order based on the positive reviews from Club Stogie and Top 25 Cigar. I had my first one about a hour ago, and it was a dud. The wrapper started flaking off from the very beginning, and soon it was basically off. Then halfway through it stopped burning correctly (no more ash, just burning inside).
My question- Is this normal at all for this cigar? Anyone else have this experience. I am hoping that this one was just a dud, and the next 9 will be perfect.<!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o referrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"/> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"/> </v:formulas> <v ath o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o onnecttype="rect"/> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"/> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="" style='width 4pt; height 4pt'/><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->Also, I must still be a newb, because it seemed like a fairly strong cigar to me. Guess I need to go back to the 5 Vegas Gold.

I have only had one of these and it did need some minor correction but nothing like this and the flavor was wonderful. What is you humidity level in you humidor?

Re: Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
I've smoked just over a box with no serious burn problems. I keep my humidor in th 63-66 range. You are correct about the strength. Most people consider them medium to full.

I've smoked a few of these. The wrapper is very delicate and IMHO they should
be smoked as jloutlaw said on the drier side. I feel that they are very similar to Cuban Cigars in this respect. ![]() |

Could be a bad batch. Can you call and complain if the second one is like that?

Re: Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
Sounds like my Humidity is to high. It is set for 70%, and has been holding steady at 70-71%.

Re: Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
I've only smoked a few of these, and luckily never had a burn issue. However, I have heard of others have burn issues with these. Unfortunately I'm not sure what storage conditions they were using.

Re: Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
These need to be stored at 60% because the Ligero leaf acts like a sponge. that's why it tunneled on you.
These are quite a strong cigar and if you are only used to the 5 Vegas Gold you better eat a huge meal before the 8/11. These are one of my favorite NC's

Quote:
That's the why you have burn issues. All Pepin made cigars(according to Don Pepin himself) should be kept at lower rh level like jloutlaw pointed out, 60-65%. Personally, I keep all my cigars in that range and very rarely have burn problems. Also, if you are used to smoking the 5 Vegas Gold, expect Pepin's to kick it up, several notches, in strengh. ![]() |

Re: Padilla Miami 8&11: Rare bad burn?
Yep I had similar problems when I first started storing them at 70%RH. Burn is now fixed by storing around 65%RH. Produces tons of smokes and draws nicely. No tunneling. More of an after dinner cigar as they can be strong at times on the nicotine. The wrapper does tend to be quite fragile, which is a negative.
