I guess we kinda got spoiled with that box split of P1's! Those babies smoked 100% great straight out of the box. I have had almost 100% satisfaction with the Tats, but actually had my first bad one about a week and a half ago. It was a Brown label, about the same size as a Boli PC. That one lit up with an immediate (and I do mean immediate, first puff while lighting) harshness. The stick burned well, but after 1/3 of the stick, and still the same, exact harsh taste, the remaining 2/3 made the arched flight from the front porch to the driveway. I think this was a "mid-life" stick; not new, but not old. Probably was around 6 months old. It came out of my humi with all my other loose Tats, so I know humidity wasn't an issue, as I have smoked several from the humi in the last weeks, and none were harsh. This stick tasted like it had been lit "hot", then hot-box smoked for about 10 minutes for a nice harsh super-heated, burning type of a taste. It was the first and only Tat I have had problems with. It would make me wonder about smoking Tats fresh if we did not have the positive experiences with the P1s! |

Do you recall which sizes you have tried? For anyone who wants to try the Tatuajes, I would recommend starting with the noellas and moving on from there. The Cojonu 2003's are very good, but need some rest. I have only had one of the cojonu 2006's and it was mighty full-bodied. I have heard these need at least a year or so to really start calming down. If someone likes cigars that are full-bodied, I would try the Reserva J21's.

Since then I've tried the Noella and the Havana Cazadores, both of which I loved. I have a box of the Noellas on the way from Holt's right now. |

Thankfully, my problem stick to good stick ratio with the Tat line is still somewhere less than 1:10. The stick I had in Florida that didn't impress but didn't just suck was the Noella (sp?), so in this case, it wasn't just a raw "big" stick that brought the question up. I'm going to pull one out of my pre-existing stock within the next day or so to make sure something funky hasn't been going on in my humidor, but other non-Tat sticks out of the same box have been just fine recently. Then again, maybe something is going on with my taste buds. I sure hope not. |
