The only reason I ask is that I have never had a Tatuaje that burned bad. Occasionally one will be slightly tight, but honestly, I can't remember any with serious burn problems. As others have mentioned, these really need to be stored around 65% or lower, otherwise they absorb too much moisture.

In terms of flavor, that is obviously going to depend on your tastes. Personally, I like certain vitolas in the Miami-made series, find the Havana VI a little too sharp/intense (the only way I can describe the flavor profile which is not necessary full-bodied) and think the Series P are rather mild. To me, the series P taste similar to the Havana VI, just not as intense. I actually prefer the series P over the Havana VI.
Well, I have to admit that every single one I've smoked were fresh from the B&M, as in no more than a day after purchase, and the humidor was around 70-72%. Given that can cause disproportionate burning of the thick wrapper compared to the filler, I can see how it would affect taste, burn, and whether drawing well or not. I may actually give them another chance, I just need to make sure I try one that's actually been kept more at the 60-65% RH.....

I guess we kinda got spoiled with that box split of P1's! Those babies smoked 100% great straight out of the box. I have had almost 100% satisfaction with the Tats, but actually had my first bad one about a week and a half ago. It was a Brown label, about the same size as a Boli PC.

That one lit up with an immediate (and I do mean immediate, first puff while lighting) harshness. The stick burned well, but after 1/3 of the stick, and still the same, exact harsh taste, the remaining 2/3 made the arched flight from the front porch to the driveway. I think this was a "mid-life" stick; not new, but not old. Probably was around 6 months old. It came out of my humi with all my other loose Tats, so I know humidity wasn't an issue, as I have smoked several from the humi in the last weeks, and none were harsh. This stick tasted like it had been lit "hot", then hot-box smoked for about 10 minutes for a nice harsh super-heated, burning type of a taste.

It was the first and only Tat I have had problems with. It would make me wonder about smoking Tats fresh if we did not have the positive experiences with the P1s!

Yeh, I might definitely give them another try after they have had a chance to rest 3-6 months in your humi, assuming you have one set at 65%. Some B&M's store their walk-ins closer to 75%, since people are constantly going in and out.

Do you recall which sizes you have tried?

For anyone who wants to try the Tatuajes, I would recommend starting with the noellas and moving on from there. The Cojonu 2003's are very good, but need some rest. I have only had one of the cojonu 2006's and it was mighty full-bodied. I have heard these need at least a year or so to really start calming down. If someone likes cigars that are full-bodied, I would try the Reserva J21's.

The J21 was the first Tat I smoked and I fell in love with it. It was straight from the B&M humi, so burn was somewhat uneven, flavor was amazing.

Since then I've tried the Noella and the Havana Cazadores, both of which I loved. I have a box of the Noellas on the way from Holt's right now.

My thoughts exactly as it relates to fresh vs. boxed a while. Sure, they age well, but until these, I've yet to have one that didn't taste really nice no matter when I smoked it relative to humidor time.

Thankfully, my problem stick to good stick ratio with the Tat line is still somewhere less than 1:10. The stick I had in Florida that didn't impress but didn't just suck was the Noella (sp?), so in this case, it wasn't just a raw "big" stick that brought the question up. I'm going to pull one out of my pre-existing stock within the next day or so to make sure something funky hasn't been going on in my humidor, but other non-Tat sticks out of the same box have been just fine recently. Then again, maybe something is going on with my taste buds. I sure hope not.
