Stamp Act of 2007. Taxation without representation, because congress these days sure don't represent me of 95% of America.

I wish we had the vigor of our fathers.

Maybe we should burn all cigars in one giant bonfire in protest. jk

Re: Rush speaks on the proposed cigar tax increase

see i though the gov't was to better our economy, help support capitalism. apparently i was wrong. they continue to chip away at a fair market society acting more like a monopoly than a group of public appointed represenatitves.

maybe we should have a dc herf on capital hill, that would be very cool.

I think comparing any member of our Congress Stalin (who by the way murdered more men, women and children then did Hitler) is going a bit far. Maybe someone like Chavez would be a bit closer

If they don't represent 95% of America, why does 51% of America vote them in?

You get what you pay for.

Re: Rush speaks on the proposed cigar tax increase

You can read this bill yourself(took me a while to find this..check out page #3):

http://www.senate.gov/~finance/sitep...1307%20JCT.pdf

It says that cigars will be taxed at 53.13% of the sale price. That still sucks hardcore!! What the bills says, is that the 53.13% tax will NOT EXCEED $10. It doesn't mean that that every cigar will be taxed $10.

You'd need a cigar to cost $18.80 for it to be taxed an extra $10. Which would make the total price of your cigar $28.10.

So a box of cigars that now costs $50 would cost $76.56 under this current bill. A cigar that costs you $5 at a store would cost $7.65 under this bill.

I got my math confused from reading a previous article in another thread. But this is directly from the bill itself.

I agree in some ways. But when then choice is between the lesser of two evils it's hard to blame to public. If that's what you meant.

The $10 tax on each cigar is ludicrous. I might as well just give the government my money now and avoid the inevitable.

Re: Rush speaks on the proposed cigar tax increase

I emailed my California Senators, Feinstein and Boxer, today. Another thread here says that the amended portion of the health care bill raising tobacco taxes and attaching the proceeds for child health care didn't make it into the final version. I hope this to be true, and I hope that my Senators will be dissuaded from voting in favor when it comes around again (and undoubtedly it will.)

Refer to my post a few above yours.

This bill is basically a 53% sales tax on cigars. The $10 is the MAXIMUM of the 53% they can charge you per cigar.

I'M NOT DEFENDING THE BILL! I want to make that clear to everyone. Still send in your letters and call. I plan to. But, I just want to get the facts straight and it will help in our efforts to fight it.

Re: Rush speaks on the proposed cigar tax increase

Well here is just one more thing that the Government (Big Brother) Is going to put their hand in and cause all kinds of problems and for a bill that will not do what they want it to do. I e-mail my senators today. do you think they read these e-mail?
