Question Seeking recommendations for DR smokes

I'm a newbie who has mostly been sticking to nicaraguan smokes--Padrons , Tats and Don Pepins. To help me explore my cigar horizons, can anyone recommend a medium or full bodied smoke that can be described as a very typical DR smoke? I have smoked an Opus and, quite frankly, wasn't impressed.

Many thanks.

I believe he asked for medium to full bodied smokes... either of those two can and will kick your ash from here to next Wednesday. Try some of the regular Fuente line, I particularly enjoy the Privada #1's they are a more medium smoke great with your morning coffee. Also try the Avo line.

Here's the link he's talking about (good suggestion, btw):

http://www.top25cigar.com/reviewdata...nican+Republic

The Fuente line has been mentioned as well--in the medium-to-full category I'd recommend anything in the Fuente Hemingway line, and you have to try the Don Carlos line to round it out. Both are stellar DR smokes, full of distinct flavor but not overwhelming with the pepper and spice like some of the LFD. I'd add in the Fuente bargain brand, Montesino, which like the Hemingway and Don Carlos lines, is not a true puro due to a wrapper of other origins, but still leads with a nice DR foundation.

This stupid computer took me about 3 minutes to actually be able to click the link that took me to the country listings, i wasnt about to go the next step. I would still be doing it. Thanks for the direct link. But to everyone else, there is some great info and reviews on cigars there and it is always something I have open when I am looking to make a purchase. Good luck in your search.

So what you are saying is that basically you have it open 100% of the time then, including when you sleep? Tho I suspect you dream of making purchases.......

Actually, I had a Coronado by La Flor Double Corona this past weekend. Loved the flavor and look of the dark oily wrapper and just the whole package. Only problem I had was with the burn. It started out uneven and never recovered. In fact, it got worse and worse. It still smoked well, but it was very annoying. I was smoking it outside on a windy day. Maybe that was the problem.

But is that a "typical" Dominican in terms of flavor profile? My impression is that Litto's smokes are closer in style to the Nicaraguans I've been smoking...maybe that's why I liked it so much.

To clarify, I asked for medium OR full bodied (in other words, medium bodied on up). I prefer my smokes on the stronger side, but I like to try everything.

What I'm really looking for is a DR smoke that really represents the DR style and flavor profile...if there is such a thing???

Re: Seeking recommendations for DR smokes

also Davidoffs are pretty good, but you will pay a lot for them same as Dunhill. Also to clarify La Flors are not all strong. Check out seriouscigars and jackschwartz for more La Flor variety. Like the Cameroon cabinet but if you go to the sites there are quite a few that are medium to full and also mild. LFDs are my favorite cigar at the moment and I pretty much like all the cigars he makes, so I am a little biased there. The Don Carlos and Hemingways are good as well made by Fuente. Also try Cusanos these are great medium to full bodied cigars. I would recommend the Cusano Corojo 97 and the C10. The C10 is discontinued so they are getting hard to find but I know serious still has some in.

i guess it was.

it's been a while since i smoked a pure DR cigar, so i can't comment, but i'd trust kheffelfs judgement on it. i see you said you liked the flavor of the LFD, just not the burn - that happens... don't make the mistake of giving up on a cigar from 1 or 2 tries, it may end up being your favorite down the road.

My bad... yes, if you want something strong with a lot of flavor the Litto Gomez or the LFD's will be an excellent choice. Just remember to eat before smoking...
