65% rh seems to "dry"??

hey guys, i recently switched my humidification to cigarmony beads.
i switched to 65% instead of around 70% which i have always ran.

now it seems like its too dry or not enough humidity. i have a nice humidor with a great seal so i dont think its escaping.. what got my attention is when i cut an end off of my oliva mb3. it split on the end. (palio) i have never had this problem until i started using the 65% beads....

anyone else have this problem/thought?

Most prefer 65%. If 65% seems too dry for you, switch back to 70%.
Are you using a salt-tested digital hygrometer?

What type of cigars are you storing. Have found that most non NC cigars i prefer in the low 60's. NC cigars from 65 to 70 depending upon the line.

it mostly personal prefernce. as long as you are between 65-70 your fine. some even go outside that for long term aging. i do believe in the nc 70 and cc 65 rule. works well for my sticks.

Re: 65% rh seems to "dry"??

I use 70%. 65% is too low for me, especially for storing, the air here can get very very very dry, so 65 beads dont work. I take them out of the humi before I smoke them just incase they are a hair too wet

NC = Non-Cuban
CC = Cuban cigar

I like to store my cigars (all NC's, unfortunately) at around 65%. I've found that my cigars just have a better draw than at 70%. However, it should be noted that where I live, the outside RH is higher than 80% just about year round. I'm sure climate is going to affect your storage preferences.

Re: 65% rh seems to "dry"??

I ordered some 65 beads after everyone on this site recommended, but honestly I will never smoke anything at 65. They were too dry, burn hot and were harsh. It is definitely personal preference, and my preference is 70% Humidity. Not bashing any one who smokes their cigars lower. I can't understand why you would smoke them at 60? I know its popular some places in europe , but to each his own.

I bet I could pull 2 identical sticks out of two different humidors, one at 65 and one at 70% RH, and most people could not tell the difference.

65%-70% is optimal storage.

You may want to test your hydro to make sure it is reading right. You should be smoking some good cigars at that humidity.

Re: 65% rh seems to "dry"??

65% here for me.
Sometimes I will even dry box (is that the right term?) before
smoking to get the smokes to optimum smoking Rh.

I need to get rid of some 70% beads and need some 65% beads. I have about 1/4 lb in one of heartfelts mesh bags if you want to swap, let me know.

Re: 65% rh seems to "dry"??

I store my cigars at 63% and get perfect burns, no splitting, etc....are you sure your humi is at 65%? (i.e, the salt test some suggested).
