Won't Be Smoking For A While Turns out I'm Sick

That's right, I won't be able to enjoy any cigars for at least the next week.

I just want to share this story because I want to vent to people who will understand.

About 20 days ago I was having some sinus trouble. Runny nose and pre-nasal drip.

I thought nothing of it but decided to take slightly larger doses of vitamine C and Zinc to get through the "cold" faster.

The following week I still had the nasal problems but now I also had a sore throat. I figured it was just the cold running it's course.

Than, the sore throat went away and I was happy yet things weren't great as I thought they were. I had developed a bit of a cough to go with my nasal problems.

Well, the cough turned into wheezing and already smoking was impossible because any bit of smoke would irritate my throat and I'd go into a messy coughing fitt.

Well, this morning I woke up and my right eye was killing me. It felt like I had sand under my eyelid and was grinding against my eyeball, I was still wheezing and coughing and still had the nasal problems.

So I decided that as much as I hate going to see doctors that I would go to the Emergency Room.

The Doc on Call took me in right away, asked some questions, took a culture from my eye and listened to my lungs.

Before I knew it I was in one of those ER beds with an oxygen mask over my mouth along with some vapor medicine that vaporized into the flowing oxygen.

Long story short, I had 3 treatments of this over the course of 2.5 to 3 hours.

The doc finally tells me that I had a viral infection of the sinusus which spread to my lungs and this mornings eye pain was the first symptom of it having spread to my right and possibly left eye.

He prescribed me some very strong Antibiotics along with a Steroid, because in his words "Your lungs are so full of all sorts of phlem that we have to take drastic measures"...

So I have antibiotics to be taken orally, I have cough syrup (RX), I have antibiotic paste to put in my eyes, I have an anti-enflamatory steroid to calm my lungs down, I have one of those Inhalers, along with some sedatives to counteract the steroid.

I guess I'm sicker than I thought I was or ever could have imagined.

I guess the reason for posting this story is that if you feel sick and after a week you still feel sick; Go see your doctor before you're ready to be hospitalized or are being measured for a pine box.

I can't smoke for at least a week so I'm SOL. I might sneak a cigarette here and there so that the nicotine withdrawl doesn't kill me first but all in all I'm temporarily out.

The saddest part of this story is that I supposed to get some very special smokes delivered to my front door tomorrow. Yes, their Padron's.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds like the doc has a handle on it. Missing your smokes is a drag but you've gotta take care of yourself.

Thanks guys, at the moment I'm kinda doped up so I'm feeling ok but you guys sure did bring a smile to my face.

And yeah, that extra time those stogies spend in storage will make them that much better.

Oh, I just thought of something, not smoking cigars for a week or so and then having my first one after the break. That first cigar is going to just be an explosion of flavor and joy. Yeah, in that order.

Don't jump the gun and start smokin till the doc says your ok, cigars will wait. Just picture it this way, they are ageing while you recupperate.

Well that's no fun. Time will heal, I guess, and thankfully, it won't be too-too long. I hate going to the doc, too. Every time I walk into his office, he finds something new that's wrong with me. Getting older sucks.

Yeah, I'm going to take it very easy with the smoking untill it's 100% ok to start up again. Yeah, those stogies are in perfect conditions for aging so they'll be THAT MUCH better with a little more time.

What do you mean leave those nurses alone? It's the other way around, they couldn't keep their hands off me. I said, ladies ladies, I'm sick and I have an oxygen mask on. They didn't care though, they just had to have me. I'm lucky to have survived the nurses alone.

Ken, I know what you mean but in this case I'm happy he discovered I wasn't faking. He said that if I had let the eye infection, and everything else, spread; it could have spread to my brain and than I would be in very severe trouble.

yeah, getting older does suck, but hey, women now think we look distinguished.
