Ebay is a good place for deals, but for every hoinest seller there are atleast 3 trying to scam you, always go by the sellers reputation !

I agree and take it a step further. A 100% positive seller rating is optimal, but if they have negative feedbacks I always read the actual gripes left by the buyers.

Give him a link to the New Gorilla forum....

Perhaps he can benefit from reading the stickies on cigar knowledge cause he doesn't have any

Re: Strange answer from ebay seller

I sent this seller a reply with another question concerning humidors and cigar storage.
Now I don't feel like I'm picking on this guy or that I'm some kind of know it all, but I just wanted to see how he would respond.
Heck I didn't know much about cigars and storage untill I found the jungle few months back.

Here is my new question to this seller:
Hello again.

I've only been smoking and buying cigars for a couple years. I have done a lot of reading and research into my new cigar hobby.
This the first time I have ever heard that "ANY CIGAR, no matter how great the humidor, will become dry in storage."
In fact I have read the opposite. That cigars can be stored for long periods with out drying out in a properly maintained humidor.
Most cigar smokers like to store their cigar in the 65% to 70% relative humidity range. How can a cigar become dry if it is stored in a humidor that maintains this 65-70% RH?
Thanks again Jeff

I'm awaiting his answer. Do you guys want me to post his answer?

Re: Strange answer from ebay seller

A common problem with some eBay sellers is that they are not necessarily experts or even know anything about the stuff they put on auction. They pick up a piece of junk at a garage sale or whatever and offer it as a rare antique on eBay. Sometimes this can work to your advantage but usually it's better to deal with someone having more expertise.

Cigars from the 1940's and 1950's have received the highest rating from many cigar magazines.

Second, I am selling because I just have too many cigars in my humidor. I simply could not smoke them all in my lifetime. There is no sense in keeping them "locked away." Let other folks enjoy them.
Odd response. Me being the master of the obvious: Wouldn't the process to re-humidify a cigar be the same process you would use to properly store a cigar for long periods of time.

You even see a lot of cigars for sale even though it is against ebays rules.
Well when I see a box of cigars listed I sometimes like to ask the seller question. Just to see what happens. Sometimes the answers are, lets say entertaining.

Today I sent the seller of some cigars a couple of questions. I asked if they were stored properly and why he was selling them?

Here is the reply:
Dear Jeff - Great questions. First, all cigars have been stored in my humidor. However, ANY CIGAR, no matter how great the humidor, will become dry in storage. Therefore, with every sale, I include a short summary of a process that will re-humidify most any cigar. Rehumidification is well worth the time because aged cigars are exceptionally smooth. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I guess I really don't understand how humidors work.
I finally found out what you do for a living! Surf ebay all day!

Re: Strange answer from ebay seller

The guy probably means well but I would never buy from him. One of my buddies who got me into cigar smoking a few years back bought a humi and used the standard humidifier with the stock hygro. His smokes were extremely dried out pretty much no humidification. Another one of my friends used to keep his humi open because he thought it was too moist inside. If people don't do any research its easy/common for them to not know they are ruining their smokes.

Re: Strange answer from ebay seller

haha, well i just called an online retailer to complain about a cigar being moldy, and they promptly put me in touch with the warehouse manager? He assured me that cigars were incapable of becoming moldy, and what I thought was mold (which smelled made my whole order stink like sweaty socks by the way) was actually a sign of aging, and very good! How can I argue with an expert?

And the online retailer is??? PM me if you want if you don't want to post on the group. I'd just as soon not do business with this outfit.
