One of those great little cigar moments

So, I'm at the ATA summer conference in Banff (basically summer camp for teachers ). I packed a decent assortment of good cigars anticipating great little pubs with mountain views where I could enjoy an hour or 2 of smoking in peace. When I arrived yesterday I asked the front desk clerk where I could find a good cigar bar. She over-cheerily replied that all of Banff was smoke free!! I could have throttled her right there

Tonight, I'm sitting in my room after dinner thinking life was just not fair. But, not to be defeated I figured I'd take a walk and enjoy a cigar (at least it's not illegal to smoke outside and the weather was nice). I grabbed a Ramon Allones Specially Selected, gifted to me by Alex (great BOTL ) and set about my walk.

I found this little trail that ran along the top of a river that was running over some rapids across from the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel (absolutely stunning looking place). I found a nice flat rock, had a seat, and watched the world go by for an hour and a half. The river roared on below and I just sat there looking up at the mountains. The smoke was fantastic and near the end the sun set behind the mountains. I realized this was easily one of the top 5 smokes of my life and all because I couldn't smoke inside

I am jealous in all facets of that that story. The smoke, the setting, the pure relaxation and enjoyment. Sounds like a helluva time.

I am jealous too. Beats the hell out of smoking in the flatlands of Kansas in 102 degree heat.
Made me feel cooler just reading about the trail and the river.

OMG, smoking a RASS in the Northern Rockies sounds heavenly!.

(Although I remember Banff having mosquitos the size of Cessnas -- hope you weren't bothered by 'em).

You took a bad situation and changed it, resulting in one of your top 5 AT smokes...that is controlling your own destiny, and one cool story.

Re: One of those great little cigar moments

Some of the best cigars I've ever had have been the most "pedestrian" one can imagine, but for the time and place I enjoyed them. Sitting on the beach in Grand Cayman at night, alone, under the stars, waves lapping on my feet... Sometimes the pleasure of the experience is more than just the cigar itself.

Re: One of those great little cigar moments

For some reason I came in this thread expecting to hear about a little hottie complimenting you on how great the cigar smells. OH WAIT THAT HAPPENED TO ME.

I was at a hookah bar, which I was obligated to go because my friend brought bunch of his hot co-workers So I grab a Perdomo Champagne from my car and start lighting it up, which I'm not suppose to but I said eff it I don't wanna sit here for an hour not doing anything.

As I'm taking the first few puffs, this little hottie at the table behind me just yells out, "oh my god what is that?" I turn around and she is a cutie balootie I give her a nonchalant reply, "it's a cigar" She continues, "wow that's so cool! that smells so good, can I try?" At this moment, I'm thinking this is too easy, I start chatting her up about and she's just eating it up, I'm boosting my cool points and making my friend's hot co-workers jealous. After a while I'm thinking, this girl is a solid 10 yard run...but sometimes you just gotta go for that play action bomb diggity. So instead of the solid first down, I chose to take a shot down field and wasted a down.

And then I found 20 dollars.

Bliss! I guess that goes to show that you can make a good thing happen out of a bad thing.
