Pipe smokers chime in...

What are your fav pipes and pipe tobaccos????

Im a huge fan of McClelland, so I love the 221b series, Oriental #8, but the blends that have been in the longest rotation in my Kirstens are, daytime: Columbian Mocha (im not much of an aromatic fan, but i LOVE this one), evening: FrogMorton, Cross-eyed Cricket, or Dunhill Nightcap.

My favorte full-flavored tobacco is Dunhill's #10 mixture. It's a blend that is only available at their London store so I always grab a few tins when I'm in town. My other go-to is Ashton's Celebrated Sovereign--it's a great latakia blend.

I usually keep 40-50 different blends around through and I like to mix depending on my mood.

My favorite pipes are my Dunhills, but for the money I also really like Petersons--they smoke great (love the Peterson system and the P-lip), look good, and I they run about an eighth of the price of Dunhills.

I've only smoked out of a cheap corn cob pipe using Captain Black tabacco. I've love to pick up a good qaulity pipe someday. One expensive habit is all I can afford for now.

It *can* be much less expensive than smoking cigars. For example, you can pick up a good quality pipe for less than $50 and buy non-tinned tobacco from your local tobacconist. Even if you smoke a bowl or so a day, $10 worth of tobacco can last you well over a month.

Having said that, it is also likely that you will find yourself plunking down $400 for a Dunhill before you know it.

If you are considering smoking a pipe on a fairly regular basis, I would highly recommend that you invest in an Old Boy lighter. Its flame angle is especially designed for pipes (of course it works great on cigars too) and it comes with a build in tamper/scraper tool. I would say you'll have a much better experience with a $50 pipe and this $50 lighter than you would with a $100 pipe and pretty much any other instrument of fire.

eBay is also an option for purchasing estate pipes at very reasonale prices--you just need to clean them very well before you smoke them (pipes.org is a great resource for questions regarding cleaning, maintenance, reconditioning etc.).

Re: Pipe smokers chime in...

I smoked a pipe year ago..I found with the pipe that I had it going all the time. Something you don't do with cigars.

Re: Pipe smokers chime in...

I recently started smoking a pipe as well. I am really enjoying it. Right now I am just smoking the bulk Edward's tobacco. The smell even has me in good with the wife as the pipe smells so much better.

Right now I am smoking the Bulk Edwards tobacco, Scottish Moor and Cavalier are my favorites. I am not against the latika actually like the flavor it brings. Does anyone have any good suggestions of a place to order some pipe tobacco?
