I'm with ya. My two cats are my "kids" as I call them (however pathetic some people may think that is ). I even say "Hey kids, I'm home!" when I walk in. I could never abandon them.

When I adopted them, I made a promise to them that I would care for them until the end of their lives, and that's what I intend to do. It would take a really big catostophe for me to not be able to see that through.

Some people think of them as "just animals", but they're family to me.

Re: Animal Shelter Shows on Animal Planet

It is simply unreal how people have the mindset that pets are disposable, and it makes me sick to see people mistreat them. Another thing I simply don't understand is, I read listings from my local animal shelter and there are pets that are 12 or 14+ years old that are owner surrendered. To just give up a pet after a decade or more just seems unreal to me, and cruel to the animal. I had to put my 10 year old American bulldog to sleep this spring after a bout with cancer and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. I spent hundreds on his treatment without blinking an eye. Some people won't even supply their pet with basic food and shelter.

I'm right there with you, those shows just kill me! I can't stand to watch them.

People do not think before they react.

Pets are members of the family and should be treated that way. \

It is dispicable on what some do to them. If you dont want them why take/buy them in the first place.

They didn't ask for that type of life. Hug your pet today !

They can be very hard to watch. You will see a dog that was used for Dog Fighting bait, starved or with an embeded collar and just feel so bad for the thing. But at least you see a lot of the abused dogs getting a second chance as a family pet with a loving home. But too many have to be put to sleep or don't make it.

THey should make Micheal Vick watch a few of these shows.

My dog was neglected for his first 6 years. He had thyroid and skin conditions that went untreated by his original owners. He is allergic to Flea bites but was left outside untreated for fleas. Now he is the sweetest and most good tempered dog you could ever imagine. He does have a few scars, but luckily most are concealed under his thick coat.

Now if I can just figure out how to get him to stop trying to pee on my C-Bid Shipments!!!

I hate watching that stuff. What's even worse is whenever I go to europe, you always see these poor stray dogs in the street's. I would always leave some food out for them but it really doesn't help. Stupid people would let there dogs roam the streets while they go on vacation. Idiots... I am glad that I live in a country that you don't see that.

Re: Animal Shelter Shows on Animal Planet

I have a german shepherd that I got from a breeder last year. She has so much energy and she's a total pain in the arse. People think I'm strange because I spend so much time exercising her and working on discipline and commands, but the way I see it, her mental and physical health is a responsibility I brought on myself, as well as knowing she's mine (pet/responsibility) for the rest of her life.

Re: Animal Shelter Shows on Animal Planet

I simply can't watch those shows, or the animal cops. They plunge me into either a deep depression or boiling anger.

My cats are my children. I would never abandon them, under any circumstances. I've even taken the step of specifying that in case of my demise, part of my life insurance would go to my ex to care for the little guys in the style to which they are accustomed.

They'll always have a good life, God willing.

I can't understand how people can look into the innocent eyes of an animal and abuse it or let it suffer.

One of the biggest reasons I don't watch Animal Planet very often.

It's despicable and I hate it, but I can believe it just by seeing the way parents can treat their kids.

Sometimes older folks who can no longer care for themselves have to give up their animal. That's one of the few reasons I can see as being "justified" for giving up an animal. It's certainly in the animal's best interest to be cared for by someone else if the owner can no longer care for it. But it seems that most are given up for other reasons, some even dumped on the side of the road. That's just wrong.

I'm all for no-kill shelters, and have adopted my three cats (my poor Buttons died very early in life) from no-kill shelters.

Yeah ive seen that, in fact i know people that move and have to give up thier pets or actives in the military that cant give the pet to a family memeber to take care of.

Re: Animal Shelter Shows on Animal Planet

People who mistreat animals should have their balls / breasts cut off. It's horrible the way some of those animals are found.

I've got three kids, a minature poodle and two llasha apso's at about 15 years old each. (70+ in dog years) and I've spent well over 1000 bucks in the last two months in doctor bills to keep them healthy. I don't mind though because they deserve it.

The amazing thing about dogs and cats is no matter how bad you can treat them, there is an undying love and will to please the owner. We owe them the same at the minimum.
