Re: Any Amatuer Radio Operators?

Not an amat radio op but when I was a radioman in the coast guard I used to run the HAM shack on the CGC Northwind and conduct MARS phone patches for the crew from the arctic circle.

When and where? I'm running a Icom706mk2g with a Tuned Long wire, so I can try just about anywhere except 160 meters

Was just talking about that again last night. I'd love to get into it but don't have the know-how and probably not the money either

Talk that up among yourselves and set a time, date and frequency...I'll be away from my shack for a week on business. I'm good down to 80 meters. I'll hop in if I'm back in time.

Would 40 or 80 meters be ok for everyone.... like maybe 04:00z? Or is that too late for the east coast?

Just working 2M and 70CM ATM. After moving to this location last year, still have the rig in the box and the vertical racked in the shed. Probably get rigged up now that colder weather and long winter nights are ahead. No trees so a dipole is "problematic"

Re: Any Amatuer Radio Operators?

I will have my technician license after I take the test Oct. 6. I plan to mostly use 2m on a mobile station for out on the 4wd trails. That's my main intention to use amatuer radio in the short term. Eventually I'd like to get general license and get a base station setup to work the HF bands.

K7AZV

Bought a Yaesu FT7800. Using it in the Jeep for communications out on the AZ trails where CB loses range.

Currently studying for the General and trying to learn morse code.
