I am definitely down for this. I'm only 27, but smoking since I was 17. And, Oct. 1 is the statewide smoking ban here in Minnesota. Seems like fate to me.

The List

Dave -- Hollywood
Freddy -- Rock Star
Chris -- Cricky101

Absolutely OK to join the list!! Way to step up! The timing is perfect for you; and as someone told me; there is NEVER a wrong time to quit smoking!! As we haven't really met .... I'm Dave. I'm from Missouri. I'm shady. After that, the details are ... well, shady. Great to have you on board!

That said, it's time to quit, dammit. I've got got one member in my quitting army, so far. I want more. Here's the deal, though, we're quitting next Monday, October 1st. No bullsh*tting about winding down, no excuses. We're gonna quit with a support network and we're gonna quit cold turkey. Also, Dave and I are enlisting in Gerry's health army, which we're also starting on Monday. That means no smoking, clean eating, and working out on a daily basis.

So if you're with us, respond to this thread and add your name to the list. Alone, it's pretty f'in hard to quit; but together, we can do this!!!!!

I'm in the process of finishing my dissertation and finding a job now. I bypassed the cigs and went right to hard booze.

Re: Time to Quit Smoking--Who's With Me?!?!?

I'm tempted to join in. Been smoking cigs for over 30 years. Really don't enjoy them and I KNOW I need to give them up. Not so sure about clean eating and daily workouts ... I guess that would mean I'd have to give up my beloved potato chips in the afternoon and chocolate ice cream after supper ... and I would have to get my butt off the sofa more often. That's a lot of changes at one time ... my doctor would probably go into shock.

Okay I'm in ... now, do I have enough nerve to hit that "submit reply" button?

Re: Time to Quit Smoking--Who's With Me?!?!?

My psychology professor once mentioned an interesting idea. Write out 10 postcards to people for whom you care and who you see on a regular basis. On the postcard write to tell them the fantastic news that you've quit smoking, and that you will never touch another cigarette as long as you live. He said it's surefire because your brain won't be able to wrap itself around making that declaration to those people and, yet, continuing to smoke.

Re: Time to Quit Smoking--Who's With Me?!?!?

I'm a closet smoker still - can smoke a pack in one night and then not have one for 2 months. I enjoy it occasionally.

In case anyone missed it before, here's a link to a very interesting article written by Joe Jackson with some little known facts about cigarette smoking.

Good luck guys! I don't smoke cigs but I do dip once or twice a day. Not sure if I'm ready to give that up yet though.

I don't smoke cigarettes either, but I do smoke cigars.

Don't even think it.

I quit last Tuesday the 18th when my wife went into labor. It has been a long time coming to give these basturds up, tried quiting lots of times but always came back. Now I have a little girl and I don't want to miss a thing because I was outside smoking a cigarette, I will miss some for my cigars .
It has been really hard for the last week so a support group sounds awsome, great idea to have a quit smoking group on a cigar forum .
