Time to Quit Smoking--Who's With Me?!?!?

OK. Enough is enough. I've pretended like I'm not a cigarette smoker, but I can't deny it anymore. I quit a year ago last June. Then, over the course of a year on the job market, finishing the dissertation, etc., I started again. I admit it. There.

That said, it's time to quit, dammit. I've got got one member in my quitting army, so far. I want more. Here's the deal, though, we're quitting next Monday, October 1st. No bullsh*tting about winding down, no excuses. We're gonna quit with a support network and we're gonna quit cold turkey. Also, Dave and I are enlisting in Gerry's health army, which we're also starting on Monday. That means no smoking, clean eating, and working out on a daily basis.

So if you're with us, respond to this thread and add your name to the list. Alone, it's pretty f'in hard to quit; but together, we can do this!!!!!

Good on you for quitting smoking cigarettes. If I wanted my lungs to be polluted like that I'd suck on a tail pipe of a Buick and chase it with a shot of formaldehyde.

I never touched a cigarette and only cigars on rare occassion before 2 months ago. Cigars are the only thing I've smoked. If there is any way to have a cigar donation/stay straight/celebratory pool, I know I got a 5'er I can kick in!

damn, must be something in the air this week-on Sun i decided i'd had enough of the cigarettes, have a chest cold for the millionth time & i'm tired of it-i don't think i qualify for "the group" as i'm quitting in a slightly different way, but i'm interested in the support group part of it-i've recently started smoking a pipe & have convinced the old lady to let me smoke it in the house if i give up cigarettes (still have to smoke stogies outside though)-not sure when the "quit date" is for me, i'm down to 6 cigarettes/day so far from a pack+/day w/2 or 3 bowl of baccy instead-i won't wish you luck 'cause luck has nothing to do w/it-i know from quitting other things that it's about making a decision & sticking to it-the change in lifestyle that you mentioned & the support group were a big help in quitting b4, i'm applying that this time too-having the pipe & cigars to substitute helps, then it's not as much breaking the nicotine grip but just the habitual & mental part of it-you guys can do it, i'm right beside ya

ok..I smoked for 20 years..quit for 2 and started up last december..quit again 6 weeks ago but have smoked 3 cigs since mmh2..feel like buying a pack now..so I will and quit again on the 1st..Im in..thanks

I haven't smoked a cigarette in almost 4 years. It's a painful, torturous process but it CAN be done. All you need is the desire and determination. I support anyone who wants to do this!

Can I sign on just for the fitness part of the program? I haven't exercised regularly in about 2 years and it just so happens that I was set to begin on a workout regime on Oct. 1st myself (the gym down the block opens that day and I'm already signed up).

I am a smoker, but seeing as I had a pretty serious accident at work. Almost collapsing a lung, smoking has ceased. Havn't had a smoke since last Sun, and going to keep it that way I think. Especially seeing as being a smoker made my injury and recovery hurt just that much more!!!!
