I've had several. We don't have dental insurance. So, the biggest pain for me has been in the wallet.

Never had one done. . . I'd rather have a root. . . oh, that doesn't work in this case does it? Good luck with all that.

Guess it depends on what drugs they give you. Mine were always locals and I drove home each time.

Re: Root Canal....Anyone had this done?

I've had three done, two from the dentist and one from and endodontist. As others have said, the boredome and keeping your jaw open is the roughest part.
Never had to be knocked out for dental work, and that includes having all four wisdom teeth pulled (two of them impacted) at the same time. Had NOx for that one. That gas was fun!
The RC will take two or three visits normally. The second and third are for fitting the cap to cover the nub of the tooth they leave in there. No pain at all at that point, just a lot of chewing on carbon paper to fit it correctly into your bite.
Not nearly as big a deal as people like to make out.

Re: Root Canal....Anyone had this done?

I've never even had a cavity, fortunately. But I am having my wisdom teeth out in a few weeks.

Been putting it off for about 30 years, I guess it's time.

Re: Root Canal....Anyone had this done?

I just had to get a root canal a few months ago. It isnt a big deal at all, the area around your tooth will be sore for about a week. When I went to the Dentist's I was very nervous. If you talk to them about this, they will prescribe you a bottle of small blue pills. I dunno what they are other than some kind of relaxer. Cost me like 5 bucks for the pills, I took one the morning of the root canal and one 30 minutes before the actual surgery. It went by really fast. The entire proceedure took about 30 minutes, for a rear molar. They will then fit you with a temp crown, in which 3-4 weeks later you will go back and get the permanent crown put on...

They numb ya up during the root canal. I heard a lot of horror stories about getting a root canal. For me it was nothing but hype and a sore mouth for a few weeks. If you are the least bit uneasy ask them for the "little blue pill" they will give ya some no problem. Other than that the only thing that sucks is how much ya pay. Even with good state insurance like I have I was still out about 700 bucks in the end for the entire string of visits.

They told me they'd give me Halcion; but I've heard of some prescribing Valium (Diazepam) instead.

Re: Root Canal....Anyone had this done?

It's true, the worst part is having to keep your mouth wide open for so long. Your jaw will get tired. Compare that to pain and it's a good trade. I asked the dentist if he had a stick he could prop my mouth open with. He didn't.

Re: Root Canal....Anyone had this done?

Had one done a few yrs ago, not too bad. was not put out. Only thing is that I ran out of insurance and couldn't get the crown so I use temporal. A temporary filling that lasts about a month or so. You can get it @ target or the like. been doing it so long, pretty much a pro at it. Wish now, that I would have just gotten it pulled-seems in most cases this inevitable anyway. Ask your dr. what he/she thinks.

good luck to you, with whatever you choose to do

exactly.

i've had 2 done.
the first one, after the first visit, i had to fly out of town for 2 weeks. all that up and down in the plane isn't good. root canal ended up getting infected for 3 months. i kept traveling... that was some seriously painful sh*t. most pain i've ever had. i could be mid-sentence, then i'd get a pain, couldn't finish what i was thinking about, and my face would turn white (whiter than my lily white ass already is).

it was a relief when it was finally done.

the 2nd one was a breeze. if you don't mind dental visits, it's easy.

I've had the pleasure of having seven so far due to I am trying to put my dentist kid's thru college. They are no big deal at all.Two things I do are take a blistex or lip balm to keep your lips from cracking open and make sure you eat something starchy to absorb up the junk you will swallow.Good Luck, No Worries
