Scars Stories

Most everyone likes to brag about their scars, but you rarely get the opportunity to do so. Well now is your big chance! What's your coolest scar or best injury story?

Best scar story, mine isn't really that great, it's just the humor of how I relayed the story to my teachers.

I was in 5th grade and my dad was shoveling snow while i was sledding down this little hill in our front yard. I slide down and his shovel caught my knuckle, the pretty white snow turned bright red, which was really cool. I had to get a few stitches and my teacher asked me what happened, so I told her, "My dad hit me with a shovel", this of course sounds awful to anyone listening and I was all doped up on painkillers with this huge bandage wrapped around my hand. Then later I had to go to the school psychologist and they didn't believe me when I said my dad didn't mean to hit me.

Re: Scars Stories

I rode my bike down a big hill all hell bent for leather when I was a wee lad and ran right into an oncoming car. I still have a lump of scar tissue on my forehead if I crinkle it up just right.

I've got lots of other miscellaneous scars over the years from working in an engine room or doing stupid things. Most of them I've covered up with tattoos.

Re: Scars Stories

Training for a bodybuilding show in '89, I broke my neck doing 600 pound shrugs. Got a nice scar down the back of my neck from the lamenectomy, missed 5 months of work, and my neck will never be the same...big fun!!

Got a good ne on my stomach after a motorcycle wreck that required a emergency spleenectomy. Only took a couple of staples to close it up(54).

Ditto. Lower back though. Discectomy and lemenectomy....either L4-L5 or L5-S1...dont remember. My brother had his neck and lower back done but they had to go in from the front for his neck. I never really noticed that much strain on the neck when doing shrugs, but then again, Ive stuck with 315 since my surgery.

Another on my wrist from where I thought it would be smart to play 8 weeks of football with a broken wrist, and another on my forearm where they took the graft out to repair my wrist.

Many pock marks and scars on my arms from burns and cuts from working structural steel for 3-4 years through college. Plus a bunch of scars on my legs from turf burn. I think Im pretty close to winning the ugly or disfigured body award.

But this reminds me of a good Montgomery Gentry song:

He said, "I've been here
For all these years
And what I know is this:
If you look and listen close
A man will show you what he is.
You know the way i see it.
You've been 'round
But you're still green.
'Cause tattoos and scars
are different things."

Re: Scars Stories

I have a pretty nice scar on the side of my face, when I was 12 I caught the pavement with my face doing about 60 mph down this huge hill on my bicycle. It literally tore all the skin off the left side of my face, you could see dow n to the bone and muscle. Thankfully, I was young enough when it happened and due to some REALLY expensive medicine, they were able to naturally regrow pretty much all of the skin so it looks and feels just like my other cheek but it really is what grew back after getting the skin removed by a tar and gravel road. You can tell if you look really close. But that doesn't stop the ladies. : )

Re: Scars Stories

I've got a 1 1/2- 2 inch scar on my chin from a snowmobile accident a few years back. I was riding with my brother on a Polaris snowmobile my buddy has out in New Lenox, Illinois. Long story short we jumped an embankment at about 50 mph without realizing the main road was about 5 feet in front of us. Cleared the street and hit the hill on the other side of the street and my chin slammed right through the gas gauge. I had a helmet on but the force of the impact pushed my head back so far that my chin was exposed.

also have an inch long scar above my right eyebrow from a barbwire fence.

Re: Scars Stories

One in my upper lip from a head butt in a hockey game where my broken tooth went through my lip. The guy got carjacked later that night and drug a hundred yards down the street....karma!!!

Tricep and side from a mountain bike fall, still got chunks of something in the tissue.

Crooked nose from a deflected slapshot that broke my nose when I was 11.

One more, 1" scar on elbow where I reached into the bed of my truck to get my hockey bag and dragged my elbow across my freshly sharpened skates that were sitting blade up in my bag. Cost me some stitches and a missed playoff game.

Thats it, pretty pedestrian by comparison to the rest of you.

Also, if we've learned anything from Icehog on this thread, keep this in the back of your head when at the gym "Must not lift anything that is 3 times my bodyweight".

Hey, it can't be as bad as what happened to this guy doing a 600 pound bench press:

(This short video clip is a bit disturbing, open if you must....you've been warned!...)

Wonder if he'll have a scar story to share afterwards?

Good call...I stick to twice my bodyweight now!

Bummer about missing the playoff game, I know how that feels!
