great reasoning.
so:
Atomic Physics = Junk Science
Quantum Mechanics = Junk Science
String Theory = Junk Science
Evolution = Junk Science
Astronomy = Junk Science

Yeah, maybe the world really is flat.

Yeah, but don't forget the rest of the story.....

A big name scientist was giving a lecture on astronomy.

After the lecture, an elderly lady came up and told the scientist that he had it all wrong.

'The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise."

The scientist asked "And what is the turtle standing on?"

To which the lady triumphantly replied: "You're very clever, young man, but it's no use -- it's turtles all the way down."

.......no, not at all......., simply stated, it is the computer models used by the global warming environmental wackos, who have nothing else to rely as a basis for their the-sky-is-falling predictions, that equate to junk science, the same junk science used by anti-smoking zealots to support their outlandish claims about secondhand smoke....; I don't recall making any reference to atomic physics or quantum mechanics et al; your straw-man hyperbole seems to be getting a bit out of hand.....

Computer models are used to guess paths of hurricanes. They junk science?

Global warming trends can be tracked directly at the Poles in relation to the melting of the ice caps and the rising of levels of the ocean.

....and the predicted paths of hurricanes change every other hour...; hell, meteorologists can't even predict the weather in Denver 3 days out...; at any rate, predicting Denver weather and the path of hurricanes is a bit different than environmental wackos predicting that New Orleans will be under 10 feet of water in 50 years if we don't ditch our cars and ride bicycles instead....all of which is based on the certainty of their nonsensical computer models and their junk science interpretation of computer model generated data...

Incidentally, "junk science" is not some well studied field of thought, it's just a term that conservatives use when they don't want to agree with science.
LOL, and "us" conservatives are supposed to be the stereotyping, profiling dismissive ones. LOL

Wow, another article from that great free and open society that isn't exactly a pillar of diplomacy and no political gain to be had. LOL. It was only a matter of time before the "Bush did..." started. *laughs hysterically* Ok...OK....answer me this. *Wipes eyes* hehe....when do we stop blaming all the problems of the free world and even Mars on one administration that has only been in office under 6 years. *chuckles* well, while we're at it...I think there is a two headed sheep with a transgender blow hole. Bush must have allowed its mother to mate with a transsexual whale. LOL

J/K- mmblz, I understand your point but just don't agree with it completely.

To be serious, I will have to agree that Bush has plenty of issues to take resposibility for but this constant blame of everything on this administration is really doing a disservice to us. It keeps the real solution out of reach.

Having an oil man edit scientific reports about the environment keeps the solution out of reach. While you may not think we should be working hard to avoid global warming, surely you can agree that Cooney shouldn't have been mucking around in the reports.

Anyhow, not looking to revive a big argument. Just pointing out the latest news...

Re: Looney-toones junk science redux

The Bush administration has stacked a number of different science advisory panels with non-scientists with an agenda. Thats not opinion, thats fact. Much in the same way they "fixed" data in other venues, they plan to "fix" data on pollution, global warming, etc.

Re: Looney-toones junk science redux

Too much emphasis is placed on scientists. They are not much different than a speedometer in a car. They collect data. It is the job of non scientists, or in a perfect world, engineers, to make use of the data so it can benefit mankind. Data can be too easily manipulated....thats why God created epidemiology. Speedometer data saying you are doing 50% over the speed limit sure does sound bad, but it is necessary to interpret that data. are you doing 97.5mph on the freeway, or 15mph at the grocery store parking lot. There is a big difference. This is why it is necessary to have data collectors, engineers, and people who represent business...yes, the oil industry, in on every decision made re oil and the environment. We depend on oil for every little thing we do. We cannot shut down the world to stop a 100 year trend that we are trying to apply to thousands of years of existence. Despite popular prejudice by the left, I am both very conservative and an environmentalist. I love the outdoors, and I want our way of life preserved so I can take my grandchild hunting (legally, without a communist knocking down my door to take my 12 ga, or my 50 cal), and I dont want 3 trees and a stuffed raccon to be the new Jelly Stone State Park. It is times like this (and only times like this), where you do not have enough data to make an educated decision, that the best answer is to find a safe gray area between extremes. So, in order to do that, lets put some evironmentalist scientists, some environmental engineers, and some industry leaders on this panel...sound good?

I have no problems wiht engineers being involved, as long as their pocket protectors are environmentally friendly and made of hemp.

Better industrial than operating or sanitation....but not by much.

And, on a similar note, is there even a PE for industrial? Can they even call themselves engineers?

And Sean, do you honestly believe I would use anything other than a hemp pocket protector? I even had hemp steel toe boots custom made so I could be in accordance with both OSHA and EPA specs.
