It is clear that the far right who say they support the troops in Iraq will smear them as phony if they disagree. Not funny or even sad ... just sickening.

Agreeing with the premise of the FAR right (I take this to mean the extreme) smears people who do not agree with them, regardless of who they are or what they do, is exactly what I meant. Yet, I did that without calling anyone losers or attempting to connect them to supporting terrorists over U.S. citizens. That is something you miserably failed to do, in my opinion. Does that clear it up for you?

Isn't the whole argument of the letter that people paid by the government decided to waste working time to comment on and wag their fingers at a private citizens remark?

That being said I do think it is poor taste to question a soldier's integrity because they disagree with the current administration. Provided these opinions are being expressed at a time when it doesn't interfere with their work and responsibilities.

As far as the Rush debate, he's a polarizing figure so that is expected. But as AAlmeter mentioned, Rush explained that his comment was a reference to that Jesse MacBeth fiasco. It doesn't really matter what the media or zealots on either side say, or how the comment appears in writing. In context his explanation makes sense. There seems to be little point in debating it's meaning or implications beyond that. If you believe him all's well - if you don't believe him you can say so, but you really can't say what his real meaning was because you don't actually know what it is.

Why do the courtesies we extend each other with disagreements in other threads (IMO, IMHO etc.) get replaced with condescension and sarcasm in threads containing political viewpoints?

I didn't listen to the clip, as I'm at work, but I did hear the segment live when it aired. As I remember, Rush read off the article about Jesse MacBeth, took a call from a current soldier on the subject, mentioned the fact that the left loves to use these phony soldiers for the anti-war movement, and then the called diverted into current soldiers who are against the war. The entire purpose of the segment was to illustrate the left's use of phony soldiers....those who have never served, make claims to support the extremists, collect benefits, and then, thankfully, are given prison terms for their fraudulent activities.

Had Rush actually called serving soldiers phony because they didn't share his opinions, the mainstream media would have been all over this like white on an oxycontin pill.

As fate would have it, I received 10L of fish oil from Ocean Nutrition last week (people who make the Meg 3 stuff Tropicana puts in one of their juice products). The DHA level I assayed to be 18% w/w.

Maybe I should have a bath in it?
