Rush Limbaugh sets Ebay record

As some of you may know, El Rushbo has auctioned off his smear letter for 2.1 million dollars and has matched the winning bid to give 4.2 million to the Marine Corps Law Enforcment Foundation.

Here is the official EIB press release: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/dai...124.guest.html

Re: Rush Limbaugh sets Ebay record

The smear was Limbaugh calling soldiers who disagree with the policy in Iraq "phony soldiers". When was ol' fatso in the army again? Oh, thats right, never.

He called soldiers who disagree with the policy in Iraq phony soldiers. I don't have the transcript, but this is what was said (from media matters).

He made the comment while discussing with a caller a conversation he had with a previous caller, "Mike from Chicago," who said he "used to be military," and "believe[s] that we should pull out of Iraq." Limbaugh told the second caller, whom he identified as "Mike, this one from Olympia, Washington," that "[t]here's a lot" that people who favor U.S. withdrawal "don't understand" and that when asked why the United States should pull out, their only answer is, " 'Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.' ... 'Save the -- keeps the troops safe' or whatever," adding, "[I]t's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people." "Mike" from Olympia replied, "No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media." Limbaugh interjected, "The phony soldiers."

Here is an oped piece from 8 "phony solders", two of whom were killed a few days after this was published.

In a lawless environment where men with guns rule the streets, engaging in the banalities of life has become a death-defying act. Four years into our occupation, we have failed on every promise, while we have substituted Baath Party tyranny with a tyranny of Islamist, militia and criminal violence. When the primary preoccupation of average Iraqis is when and how they are likely to be killed, we can hardly feel smug as we hand out care packages. As an Iraqi man told us a few days ago with deep resignation, "We need security, not free food."

It is clear that the far right who say they support the troops in Iraq will smear them as phony if they disagree with the war or how it is managed. Not funny or even sad ... just sickening.

The reason you conveniently leave out the transcript, is because media matters are the ones who created the lie!

I strongly suggest you check the facts (widely available) instead of spreading third-party heresay lies.

Re: Rush Limbaugh sets Ebay record

SeanGar, are you agitated that Rush is widely known to 99% of America as probably the biggest supporter of our military and that 22 million people listen to him while no one watches or listens to the rest of the "Drive By Media"? This thread was for us to show our gratitude for the Man Running America and how charitable he is, not to continue the smear.

99% huh? You have data backing that up?

I didn't think so.

Agitated? Yeah, I get agitated when somebody insults the soldiers who volunteer to serve the country but see the truth in the fact that this entire fiasco is an unmitigated disaster and say so.

The "Man Running America"? Buwahahaha. What flavor was the kool ade?

Nope, you're wrong again.

The reason that I left out the transcript was that I couldn't find it free online. If you have it post it here for all to see exactly what Rush said. The Media Matters quote shows exactly what he said. You refuting the veracity of that quote?

You're calling the quote a lie. Them's big words .. have anything to back it up?

Sean, I'm not sure what to make of this as I know you're too smart for Media Matters...so I'm assuming this is some sort of trap you're setting...but I'll take the plunge. The whole conversation was centered around Jesse MacBeth, the boot camp flunk-out claiming to be a corporal in the Rangers who committed war crimes for shits and giggles in Iraq in order to gain money and benefits from the anti-war left and veterans departments.

The complete transcript is online and the broadcast is on youtube, so I won't "copy and paste" it here. I'm sure there will be plenty of inane crap copied here shortly anyway.

Hahahaha, thanks Mary Ann.

I listened to that Rush clip .... excuse me while I eat some DHA ..... funny how listening to him causes rapid DHA depletion and obvious consequences.

So, the media matters quote appears accurate.

Now, the Rush lovers will spin this all they want, but the fact of the matter is that he suggested that soldiers who disagree with the war in Iraq are phony soldiers. He also said early in the clip that you can't be a republican and disagree with the war in Iraq.

In any case, I do agree with one thing. The stupid letter in question is lame political grandstanding by people who are paid by taxpayers to run the country, not try to score cheap political points.

Since you ask, I briefly scanned the transcripts; I couldn’t tell to whom Mr. Limbaugh was referring by his “phony soldiers” crack and I haven’t followed the aftermath very closely so I really don’t have an opinion about what he said one way or the other.

Whatever it was Mr. Limbaugh said, I don’t think Congress has any business censuring speech, no matter how inaccurate or odious, and I believe Harry Reid’s time would be better spent bringing an end to Bush’s illegal and immoral war, the illegal wiretaps, illegal detention and torture, or any one of a dozen urgent and important issues he has been dodging so ignominiously recently.

As for the outcome of the auction, a large sum of money has been given to a good cause, Mr. Limbaugh has had something to huff and puff about for a few weeks, and his fans have a reason to celebrate—an opportunity that they are wise to take full advantage of, as such opportunites continue to become increasingly rare.

I heard that Mr. Limbaugh is celebrating by heading back to the DR with a suitcase full of OxyContin and boner pills. I wish him bon appetite!

Media matters is just another left wing geyser of lies (what else would you expect coming from a Clinton). Regardless of how you feel about Rush, this attempt by the losers on the left to try and censure a private American citizen should bring outrage from both sides, but then again the left is only concerned with civil rights when it comes to protecting terrorists, not American civilians.

Here we go again...Don't you think this blanket statement treads on the being inflammatory to a large group of people? Attempting to single out one side of a horribly corrupt and polarized political system is laughable. The irony of "geysers of lies" in a thread about Rusch...
