Re: Daughter having grommets

Both of my boys had to have the tubes put in. When they had their tubes put in, they also made them some nice little ear plugs that were made specifically for their ear. They could hear through them, but they didn't allow water in. They didn't seem to mind them to bad, although they were glad when they didn't have to wear them any more.

The worst part of the surgeries was the waiting while they were in there. We will be thinking about you and your little girl.

Re: Daughter having grommets

I had tubes in my ears when I was around 10 and still get ear infections about every 2-3 years. According to the Doc, tubes are usually very effective.
My son and daughter 6 and 8, have never had any problems though.

I hope everything works out well for your daughter.

Re: Daughter having grommets

Its weird how some people are prone to ear infections. When my sister was little she had to have tubes put in and had ear infections all the time. She has no trouble now as an adult.

Will pray for your daughter.

Re: Daughter having grommets

You guys and girls are great, the support has been fantastic.
I know it's only grommets and that generally they are not much, but as those who have kids will know its hard to watch kids go through things like that. I guess i'm like any father, all tough on the outside but will go to the end of the earth for my kids and wife.

Thanks again, you have all made me feel a lot better.

I will keep you posted as to how things go tomorrow.

Cheers
Jason

Oh, forgot to mention.
Josh, PM received and PM returned, thank you for your thoughts.

Lumpy, great suggestion regarding the ear plugs, didn't think of that one but we're gonna use it, knowing Skylar she'll go for it as she loves all sorts on animals.

Same case here, except with brother. She'll do just fine!

Re: Daughter having grommets

Geez, timely post. I have 3 1/2 year old twins, and my son keeps getting ear infections. We are seeing an ENT in about two weeks to talk about tubes. My daughter (his twin sister) does not get them as often, but still gets them.

Of course neither of them ever had an ear infection until they started going to daycare when they were 2 1/2! Lot's of bugs being tossed around those day care facilities.

I've wanted to avoid tubes at all costs, but looks like we'll be walking down the same path.

Well I hope everything goes well for your little ones too, if you remember, post back after you've been to the ENT and let us know how you went. I will be posting back after Skylar has her operation and will let you know about the procedure she went through.

Keeping your little ones in our thoughts.

Cheers

Re: Daughter having grommets

Hey everyone, once again I would just like to say thanks to everyone for their well wishes, thoughts and prayers. It meant a great deal to both my wife and myself even for something as simple as this.

Skylar has now had the op and is running around again as nothing ever happened (who woulda guessed kids eh).

She was very brave going in and was very talkative to the nurse who asked all the preliminary questions and weighed her, telling her all about her pending 3rd birthday and who she was inviting only as Skylar could.
She turned a little shy when we spoke to the anaesthetist and then freaked when we went into the theatre, as you would expect a 3yr old to do, very cold, sterile looking places those theatres and with all the machines I think the cold hard reality hit her.
I had to hold her, kicking and screaming as she was, while the anaesthetist administered some gas which took her about 20-25 breaths before she went into a sleep, gave her a couple kisses and left her.
Some 25 minutes later and the nurse called me in and I was quite surprised to see her sitting up on the bed in the recovery room asking for daddy.
She got a little antsy and wnted to go home but I managed to calm her and we stayed for about an hour in recovery when she strated getting antsy again, the nurse came over checked her out and discharged her.

All in all everything was good, but certainly made better knowing that the crew at CS was thinking about my little girl.

PDS, good luck with your little ones as you said you were seeing an ENT in a couple of weeks, the procedure is quite straight forward and now that I know what is entailed I feel a lot more comfortable with it so I'm sure that everthing will be fine for your little ones, we will still keep you in our thoughts and prayers though.

Cheers
Jason

Re: Daughter having grommets

Jason, that's fantastic news my friend. I'm so thankful that everything went okay and that you're daughter is doing fine. I pray that this takes care of the problem and that she never has to be bothered with ear infections again. Best of luck to you, your wife, and daughter.
