Daughter having grommets

For the last 12 months my daughter, who will be 3 on the 25th, has been having severe ear infections, it would seem like we would get them cleared up and then she would have another. The last time we saw the Doc he said "well lets try this nasal spray and see if that works". Nice one, ever tried to convince a 3 year old to stand still and spray something up their nose and convince them its helping?

We got away with it once and once only, so now she has to have grometts and is going in for an operation tomorrow. I feel sorry for her as she is such a happy child most of the time and it really brings her down and also for the fact that she doesn't really understand whats going to happen tomorrow.

Anyway, not sure why I'm telling you all this, just thought I'd get it out their.

Cheers
Jason

No FUN! I had mad ear infections when I was a little girl too. I hope the procedure goes well. And that's kinda what we're here for to support each other and give everyone a bit of love

If grommets are what I think they are. (tubes) I had them when I was a kid. The only thing I remeber was having them taken out and it really was not that bad. Best wishes to the little one!

Re: Daughter having grommets

My daughter had ear infections from the age of 2 up until about 5 years old.

She had to alternate between amoxycillin and another medicine because she would develop an immunity to them. The infections finally went away and she never had tubes (thank goodness).

Hope your little one gets better soon.

Re: Daughter having grommets

Thanks for the support guys.... and girls .
Made me feel heaps better. My daughter loves to swim, we take both our kids (my son is 10mths) swimming every Sunday. Our local indoor pool has baby and tots classes and they love it.
Don't know how we're gonna go trying to convince Skylar that we have to put ear plugs in when she goes swimming but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Thanks again, I feel know.

Re: Daughter having grommets

Our son had probably 15 ear infections in the first 3 years of life, and we had a peditrician that would not pass on tubes, did not believe in them, for what ever reason (was a good doctor, good with kids, smart, alwasy on the money with problem solutions, just had a flaw about ear tubes). Always taking anti-botics, infections would clear up for 2 weeks, come right back. We finally got tired of it, found an ENT (Ears, Nose and Throat) doc who would put in tubes. Not a single infection after tubes went in. All the antibotics as a child have come back to haunt our son. They tend to weaken the enamel on the teeth, and he always has cavaties at the dentist, despite regular brushing.

When Our daughter started having ear infections, we went to the same ENT after the second one, same results, no more infections. It is hard to see them go into any type of surgery as infants. But it still sticks in my side that our son went through needless pain and infections due to a doctor's prejustices.

Hope everything turns out as good for your daughter as it did for our kids.

Thanks for that, it's good to get positive feed back and know that the right thing is being done.

Just like t'kay said, that's what we're here for: try and support and help one aother. Hope everything runs as desired. It's not easy but kids are usually very resistant.

Take Care

Tell her that lots of mammals close their ears when swimming, and putting the plugs in is there to make her a better swimmer, like dolphins You never know, it might work...

My son had a few ear infections and we had tubes put in at age 2, they stayed in until age six (when they grew out). No infections, no problems.
