Gmail or other e-mail services

My spam "threshold" has been reached with my present e-mail accounts which are with my service provider. I want to go to e-mail that is "portable" so I can more easily change providers. I know that some internet groups won't allow you to sign up with some e-mail services (hotmail comes to mind).

I've been looking a Gmail and is seems like it would be a good service. Has anyone run into "sign up" restrictions with GMail? I'd be interested in any other thoughts on GMail.

I'm using 3 e-mail accounts now with my soon to be ex-service provider and the spam is out of control. I assume GMail has provisions where only e-mail addresses in your address book or approved e-mail addresses can get by the filters.

I have two gmail accounts. It has been the best email that I've come across. I have a lot of invites if interested pm me with an email so I can send it to you.

Not quite 2 years, but yeah,

I also like the fact that, now I have my own laptop, I can use my gmail account like a regular POP3 account, and download the messages to my PC.

I've been getting spam lately, but i think it's coming from the other 2 emails I've got forwarded into my gmail.

I love my gmail; I don't think I could use anything else--esp w/firefox and the extensions i've got for it.

Once you get used to it, I think you'll really enjoy it. And yes, you should be able to set up filters for your contacts specifically. If not--report as spam and gmail is pretty good about sending things there automatically after the first one/two times you hit the "report as spam" button.

I don't know why they still have invites on there--i don't think you even have to use them anymore. Still got like 80 something myself too lol.

I am with them...I love my gmail account..and I have no issues with the spam..it gets filtered and deleted after 30days..No worries!!

Yet another proponent of GMail. Especially now that IMAP is offered (and I'm using it!).

If you own your own domain, you can also use GAFYD to host all your email for free.

I thought 50 invites was the limit they gave.

I LOVE my gmail account, no spam what so ever gets into my in box, less that 5 a day in the spam folder. Plus gmail chat is great for when you're at work.

Been using hotmail for 11 years now. I haven't run into any restrictions I couldn't get around. Gmail is great as well.

another fan of gmail, here. one thing, though: CS won't allow you to initially signup with a gmail account, if I remember correctly....

PS, still have 95 invites left. LoL! they kept replenishing them for a long time.

I've used Hotmail, Yahoo mail, and Gmail. Gmail is by far the best. It's just more user friendly and has a lot more options that are to my liking. I get SPAM very rarely in my inbox and I'm willing to deal with it. I highly recommend switchin to gmail and sticking with only that.
