It is an interesting ruling. It makes me wonder whether similar arguments might be used successfully in suits against abortion protesters (i.e. the "cause emotional distress" argument that was cited in the case, paraphrasing of course).

I live not too far from such a clinic and the stuff that some (not all) of those protesters say to clinic clients is hateful and designed to cause intense distress. While walking by there one day, I made the mistake of making eye contact with one of the protesters and she laid into me with all sorts of verbal assaults (e.g. "are you a Christian? How can you simply walk by this place of murder and not want to burn it down?", that sort of thing). T'was all I could do to keep from punching her in the tatas.

This makes me sad to be human, sometimes... I have no words to describe the emotions I have towards those people, and the videos of them protesting are something one can just un-see. I hope he gets every penny he deserves.

Isn't it illegal for an American flag to touch the ground? Isn't it some sort of federal offense to stand on one? If not, it damn well should be. If you hate our country so much, then get the f*ck out. I'd gladly buy them each a 1-way ticket to Iraq, so they can protest to our men and women serving to give them that very right. I imagine some of our military personell might forget a constitutional right or two, and maybe teach them some tolerance...

I was recently in Topeka where these yahoos are based at and they were outside Washburn University's Graduation Ceremony. The worst thing I saw was that they had kids (5-10 yr olds) holding up signs saying "God Hates Fags" "America Will Die"....

just crazy stuff and it is one thing to have adults but spewing this into the children of America is scary. I just pray that at some point they will have a premonition.

As a veteran I am glad to see the verdict go against these people because they were attacking military personnel who have been killed in the line of duty. Just a reminder though, we serve so that unpopular sentiments and actions may still be protected by our Constitution. That disclaimer being said, I will probably be in DC next weekend for the Marine Corps Birthday and hope that I run into one of these jerks where their freedom to dissent ends at the end of my fist. In answer to the question about law not allowing a flag to touch the ground, the US Flag and Ceremonies Code has been reduced to a set of guidelines with no legal code behind it. You can do anything to and with our flag with no consequences since the Supreme Court decision on flag burning. Last year in San Francisco during some protest marches, a peace protestor crapped on our flag and was not prosecuted. This year the Marine Corps was not allowed to film an ad in San Francisco. Just an indication of where this country is going. I also predict that the jury's awards will be overturned upon appeal unfortunately.

You don't like homosexuals, fine. Go protest at one of the many Gay Pride parades.

I'm all for free speech ... but protesting at funerals is classless idiocy. If these leeches were at a funeral for some relative of mine, I'd go rent a fire truck and blast 'em with the hose.
