Under counter lights
I'm looking to put in some under counter lights with a 3-way touch dimmer. Anyone have any experience with these? They have regular, halogen, Xenon, and LED. I'm leaning toward the halogens simply because of the weird colors the Xenon's and LED's throw off and the fact that the LED's can't be dimmed

Re: Under counter lights
Watch out for the heat that halogens generate. If you are storing anything delicate in that area, you might want to consider another type of lighting.

The LED's have the longest burn life.

Re: Under counter lights
I used the halogen pucks - I knew for my purposes that I would not have any higher than mood lighting except for the briefest periods of time. Halogen is dimmable and gives a "less-yellow" light when dimmed...also flicker free

Re: Under counter lights
Fluorescent are typically the cheapest but give good working light. The halogen and xenon look cool but, as a home builder, they show off imperfections in solid surface countertops (granite). Never bothered me as I have low-voltage halogen pucks in my kitchen, but have had a few complaints from homeowners. The easiest to retro fit are the low voltage pucks.

Re: Under counter lights
I installed incandescent under shelf lighting on all my built-in bookcases as accent lighting about 4 years ago. They are self contained mini-strip lighting that ran about $30 bucks each. 18 strips total. As of now there are only 5 left that are still working. The did look nice - but when I get around to replacing them all - I will go with LED's simply due to the longevity of the lights. Amount of light given off can be controlled by the amount of lights used. So yeah, sort of pissed off due the amount of money spent verse's the amount of time they have lasted.
As noted - Halogen lights put off a high amount of heat. I also have 10 of those that I use - five in a display case and five as overhead lighting. They are on dimmers and throw out a lot of light - but I keep them dimmed which causes them to give off a lot of yellow light. Ron |

Re: Under counter lights
I put six in when we re-finished the kitchen. I used Halogen and they are on a three way touch switch that has low, medium and high. The low is nice we used orangeish colors for paint so it is a nice amber color. The high setting though will raise the temperature in the room, we don't use it that often.
