Digital Camera Suggestions - Need Help

I am going to get my wife a new digital camera this year for Christmas but I need some advice. I am looking for the best small camera available, preferably slim, large screen for viewing and quick shot reaction. It will be used most likely to take pictures of our son and other family events. Any suggestions of advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a Kodak at wally world. It was around $130. 7 megapixels nice 2.5 inch screen. I don't think you can beat it for the price.

My dad got one of these over the summer, and can't fault it. The pictures are really good, it handle's very nicely, the anti shake is very good.

This is a sweet camera. I haven't owned one but several friends have and they are a lot of bang for your buck. Easy to use with great looking results. Good luck.

I picked up a Cannon S3 a while back and love it. Great pictures, easy to use but also has lots of added features for advanced users.

It also rates well in Consumer reports.

I bought a Kodak z740 over the the summer and LOVE it. While it's not what you are looking for, I can tell you a good place to get Kodak camera's. Their refurb site.

Carries manufacturer's warranty and great price. They have a pretty decent selection of camera's that might fit your needs.

Re: Digital Camera Suggestions - Need Help

One more word of advice, buy a digital camera form a manufacture that makes regular SLR cameras, not an electronics manufacturer.

Although I can see where you are coming from with that, I'm not 100% sure about it.

The Panasonic I linked to has a Leica lens, and I would imagine that Leica would have had some input into the overall design of the camera, after all Leica is Leica, and they are some of the best camera's in the world (I regularly drool at the sight of a M.

Find a camera that you like. Look at sites like DPReview that someone else linked to earlier, its a great website with lots of reviews of lots of camera's, and the forums are very good as well.

Canon all the way. Like mentioned above, the SDxxx series is great! I have an SD630 for my PnS camera and love it!

Re: Digital Camera Suggestions - Need Help

As an owner of two Sony digi-cams; I would recommend Canon. Perhaps mine were too new when I got them; but they just don't match up. Wife & I went on a cruise in January and her friends had an approx 8 month old Canon. We had a roughly the same age Sony. Theirs a slim-line powershot while ours was a slim-line cyber-shot. Their camera focused faster, took better pictures (color quality, etc), & better battery life. Although I like my camera; the next one I purchase will be a Canon.

Just my & my experience could just be mine. Good luck with the hunt, a lot of great products out there.

Re: Digital Camera Suggestions - Need Help

Thanks for all the input. For the price it seams like the Canons are probably the best bet.
