Wounded Soldier: Military Wants Part Of Bonus Back

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.
To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.
Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

So lets see.... I get the HONOR and the PRIVILAGE of serving my COUNTRY overseas and I get to get shot at on a daily basis. I do this not because I have to but because I want to, because its and HONOR and a PRIVILAGE of serving my COUNTRY. Now if I get blown up in the line of duty I have to give money back to the country, isn't that what taxes are for? Yeah I reenlisted at the beginning of the year there was no bonus, the only incentive that I got was being able to continue being an active duty U.S. MARINE, and SERVING this COUNTRY! OOHRAH!

That's even more messed up than ol' Gates wanting to can 100,000 civilians and 100,000 contractors.

I don't support this war, and I get tired of the brainless twits that I run into that tell me that if I don't support the war, I don't support the troops. Well, here you have it . . . the same f***ing government that sends these men in harm's way demanding a signing bonus back !?!?! How is THAT supporting the troops? In my opinion, every soldier that comes back from a war wounded with limbs or body parts missing should be taken care of (and I mean WELL taken care of, not Walter Reed taken care of) for the rest of thier lives. If you left body parts over there, you have served your FULL committment even if you were only in 90 days! If you come back injured to the point that you are disabled from normal work, you have served your FULL committment! What is the problem with these people? Who ever came up with this should have a grenade strapped to his gonads and then have the pin pulled.

Sounds like your typical governmental glitch in the system. I'm reasonably certain that no-one in government actually thinks that these folks really need to pay the money back........they just have to fix the wording in the agreement, I would guess.

The wording in the enlistment contract was intended to cover early discharges for things like good of the service and misconduct/failure to adapt. I hope that as was said this is just a typical snafu in the system and will be quickly corrected.
