Re: In the market for a truck!

I used to be a ford guy, but after 3 straight bad luck experiences I bought a Dodge, I was pleased with it, it was a quad cab and never gave me a problem. After I hit a cow with it, I went to buy another and the Dodge people wouldnt deal with me...so Ive since switched to Chevys and after 4 of these I doubt I'll switch back to anything else. Ive put no less than 180K on each of the first 3 without problems and have 60K on my current one. I dont baby them either, I pull all sizes of trailers with them, and work out of them daily. I know you said you wanted a 1/2 ton single cab, all of mine have been 4 doors and 3/4 ton with tranny coolers. But they make really nice looking single cabs, I just need something bigger.

Good luck with your search, you're gonna get a boat load of opinions lol

No better trucks than Chevy or GMC.

We own a GMC dealership and there are alot of return business on trucks.

I can give you a little tip though. Save your money and buy the 1500. If you feel you need the packing power of a 2500 or 3500 just beef up the leaf springs. Alot cheaper than buying the bigger model.

Re: In the market for a truck!

You asked for a halfton or so. How about the Dakota. They have quite a bit of room inside and I`ve driven the V6, nice performance. I personally only drive 3/4 ton or larger. Better resale.

Re: In the market for a truck!

I've had great luck with Toyotas and Fords, but that's just me.

I've never bought a vehicle without thoroughly investigating the dealership. For whatever reason, I've found more problems that trace back to poor quality at the dealership than at the manufacturer.

You can also do research through NHTSA's office of defect investigation
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm

Do your homework and ask around about specific years and models. Also note that some options require serious work by the dealer, so make sure that they do a reputable job. www.kbb.com and others are good sources for actual pricing, but note that they don't include incentives. MSRP isn't the bottom line.

I bleed Ford Blue and my vote goes there. I have owned all the American makes and don't intend on driving anything but a Ford F350 Powerstroke for the rest of my life! Toss in the power upgrade of your choice (Quadzilla for me) and you get the best of both worlds.

Re: In the market for a truck!

It seems like everybody has their own opinions and experiences. I've been looking at a dodge, so everytime I see someone drive one I ask them how they like them. It seems that dodge owners either love their trucks or hate their trucks, with the vast majority of them loving their trucks. The only other thing that I have to add is what my brother told me about the cummins motor. He said that the cummins motor is an excellent motor that will out last 3 trucks. Just so you know he works for international diesel helping to develope the motors.

Buy a Ford you wont be dissapointed. If you get it with the Powerstroke you will be able to pull damn near anything you can back up to

Re: In the market for a truck!

The reason I`ve looked at the Dakota is my wife is thinking about trading her F250 gasser on one. Actually found one with a V6 and a handshaker, but not time $$yet. Mine is an 05 Ram 2500 diesel 4x2 stick. We have 3 kids 16, 12, 11. Add.... both are SWB Crew Cabs.

I was pushing over 700 foot pounds of torque to the wheels (With 32s), but I could fry a set of brand new 38 x 15.5 PJ Dirt Grips standing still. Then again I had over ten grand in upgrades

I forgot to mention, my dad purchased a brand new Chevy standard cab (Silverado I think) with the V8 and he loves it. As I mentioned earlier today, my three Chevys were of the 1968, 69 and 70 vintages. I dropped a built 350 vette motor in the 68 with a Muncie rock crusher. I loved that truck, but I could not keep the back in down.

Re: In the market for a truck!

Another place to look is Edmunds.com

its a good cite with alot of info and you can build the truck and see about what invoice will be plus any incentives the companies are throwing out there..I have owned and driven all 3 and have sold all three and living in a Truck town GM trucks outnumber all others..if you have any questions please let us know I think there are a couple ppl here that can make it go a lil more smoothly (I sold and Financed for 4 different dealerships)

Re: In the market for a truck!

Dodge 3/4 or 1 ton with a Cummins Turbo Diesel 24 Valve! Seriously though, the best motor a man can buy, I had one, had to sell it since I need tuition money, have a Tahoe now, it's ok, but I drive my 1992 escort instead

Re: In the market for a truck!

If you want to go the domestic route, I'd vote for GMC/Chevy like most others have said.

I will be looking into getting a new truck in about 4 months. One of my top choices is the Nissan Titan. I have had 5 Nissan products all the way from a pickup to an Infiniti, and have loved all of them. A friend of mine has a crew cab Titan, and he loves it. The V8 has plenty of power for towing as he uses his to haul his track car and trailer all the time. Price wise it is very comparable to the price and features.
