tv turned green - guess as to where the problem lies?
I was watching tv earlier, made some change with the receiver, and all the sudden everything turned green.
I have an HD receiver that goes straight to the TV through HDMI. Then a DVR and DVD that both go to an Onkyo Receiver through component cables. From there, component cables go to the TV. It's the DVR/DVD that's screwed up, so it seems that the problem is one of: 1. The receiver, as it passes the signal through. 2. The Component cable between the receiver and TV 3. The input module to the TV (it's an industrial tv so the board with the component input is removable). I know, I know - to diagnose I should unplug this and plug that there and try this cable there, etc etc. The problem is that I don't have any extra cables, and it's very difficult to change anything about the setup - everythign is in a cabinet, cables go through cabinet walls and shelves, and through the drywall to get to the TV... So I was hoping to get some ideas before I start ripping it apart. When it happened, I had switched to DVR to set the channel and it was fine. Then I switched back to TV, and hit PIP, which is when I noticed the problem. Now it is green whether I do PIP or full screen, and whether I test with DVR or DVD. The built in menu for the receiver is also green. It seems likely to be essentially a problem because of how the signal is seperated for component cables. Then again, it doesn't look exactly like any one of the signals is completely missing. What should be white looks the most obviously messed up - and is sort of a neon/night vision green. However, there are some blues and reds - they're not completely missing. Any ideas?

Its broke?
No seriously, you are right it sounds like a cable problem. The component cables separate the signals and one or two may be loose. The only way to know is to go through every connection working back from the monitor. Good luck. |

fixed it.
somehow, the configuration in the tv for that input had gotten set to RGB instead of Component (whatever that means) My only guess is that somehow the universal remote accomplished this by sending the wrong signal, or sending things too quickly, or whatever...

I had this exact problem with my FIOS the other night, figured it was the bad weather, and just turned it off. Worked fine the next day...
