Dating and cigars

I have a question for the single gorillas out there:

Does the fact that you smoke cigars affect your dating life? Have you had trouble getting a date because of the fact that you smoke cigars? For those of you that do online dating, do you mention it on your profile?

I mention it on my dating profile (on okcupid.com-I have a BF, but it's an open relationship) because I have had issues with people that refuse to date smokers, but are dumbfounded with cigar smokers. After all,I don't smoke everyday and usually smoke alone. I have gotten the usual (gee, what do you stuff that with/trite monica lewinsky jokes) responses, with an occasional compliment from most. But it's almost like you have to come with a warning label:

I'm Charming as can be, but stay away from me...im a (*gasp*) cigar smoker!

after all, people have crazy standards when it comes to dating. Do you?
What are you experiences with the non-smoking population of the dating world?

My last gf loved the fact that I smoked cigars.

Now that I'm single again I don't hide the fact at all. If someone doesn't want to date a cigar smoker that's fine by me. It's a pretty big part of my life so they better be OK with it. But I'm also 41, balding, a bit of a paunch, a gun nut and ride sportbikes, so they already got some hurdles to overcome. But so far I've been able to find women for which all are pluses. Haven't tried a dating site yet, haven't needed to, but if I ever do I'll mention all of my hobbies, as they are all things the person needs to be OK with to be with me. Why lie and spring it on them later.

With the USofA being so anti-smoking now, I see where it could be a problem. Add to that the fact you are a female that smokes cigars. I don't see anything wrong with that, but I bet much of the non-smoking public would think that is just wrong. Smoking cigars has been primarily a male thing and that's all that the majority know. So I see how it can be very difficult for you in your quest for a date.

Since you're not an everyday smoker you can put it in words such as, "I enjoy a good cigar" instead of "I smoke".

If I were single I'd say so up front, I do so about being a football-aholic, this leaves no void in expectations from both sides.

I mentioned it, in small terms on my profile when I was dating on line. I happen to have latched on to nice woman who does not mind cigars, and that is that... I have done the online dating thing off and on since 1999.

Always be honest about your wants on line, that does not mean to push to the forefront as there are a lot of facets to one's personality beyond just cigars. Most sites have different levels of canned tobacco use levels.

I am sure the cigar smoking will be a big plus for meeting guys, as that shows off an independent, confident spirit that is quite attractive to many guys. I would not worry, and if you meet guys who do not like cigar, why bother with them to start off?

Best tip for dating on line is to not waste time with people who are not a match. It takes more than a flashy picture and big income to find real attraction...

It's quite a mix for me. Some women I meet have the "You smoke cigars? That's so cool" attitude, and many have the "Cigars?? That's gross!" attitude. Those ones I obviously avoid asking to dinner.

With my current relationship I let her know right off the bat because I foolishly let an EX banish me from smoking cigars.... well to not go too into it, I didn't like that she was all up in my grill, hehe sorry i had to use it, for smoking occasionally, which was 1 every 2 months back then.

I let my GF know if she gives me an ultimatum between her and cigars I would choose the Gars! and that isn't because they are more important to me, I don't want to be controlled and told to quit a hobby I really enjoy because of something they want. Furthermore, I told her upfront, if she had a problem with it she should have said something then.

All and all, I suggest telling them within your first conversation or two if you don't want to put it in your profile.

I mention it. I'm 22 and really don't give a crap. Cigars are a big part of my life. I met some of my best friends at Habanos Torres. If she got a problem, deal or go home. So far it's not been too big of a deal for me. Some of my exes would smoke with me... one smoked way stronger than me, that was cool.

Two things I tell a a girl right off the bat. 1. I smokecigars and I love them but I dont do it all the time, but if you have a problem with it tell me now (because that will be out last date). 2. During football season we can hang out on Sundays, but only if you are going to watch the games. I wont watch all of them and I will make time for you, but if you give me a hard time about it when my teams are playing you should probably show yourself the door. Then I follow those statements up by remember Im gonna be a doctor, so they remember the good things about me. J/k I should try that next time though to see how it works. Never had any girl have a problem with those two statements and I went to a christian conservative university. My 5 cents.

I smoke cigars...

Those are the facts of life that I tell any woman... if she doesn't like it, then she is free to go out with someone else. It would be nice to find someone who shares your appreciation of cigars, my current G/F does, she does not mind me smoking in her car even. She on occasion will smoke also.

My current GF doesn't really care. She's not into cigars, but doesn't mind hanging out at herfs or the cigar bar. She just doesn't smoke 'em. In fact, she even ordered me a box for Xmas.
