Different Perspective on Drugs
This might have already gone around a time or two, but its the first time I've seen this. A coworker emailed this to me.
The other day, I read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farm House in a nearby county and asked a buddy of mine a rhetorical question, "Why Didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?" Here is his reply: " I did have a drug problem when I was a kid growing up on The farm. I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for Weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed, told a lie, brought home a bad Report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the Preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked Of me. I was drug to the kitchen sink if I uttered a profane word. (I do know What soap tastes like.) I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and mow the grass, take out the trash, and clean up after the family. I was drug to the homes of Family, Friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, fix their deck, Or chop some fire wood. If my mother had ever known that I took a Single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the Woodshed! Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in Everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack or Heroin, and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America might be A better place today.

Re: Different Perspective on Drugs
This is off topic in regards to the spirit of the post, but I can't help it as the topic of drug policy is one that fascinates me.
Consider that in the "old days" one could enter into any pharmacy and purchase morphine syrup and cocaine tonics legally as a medicine. There were many, many people abusing them at that time. Of course, this doesn't mean drug problems didn't exist, but since they weren't illegal they were merely ignored. Now that almost all drugs are illegal, they can become a convenient scapegoat for all sorts of perceived deficiencies in society. I guess it boils down to how you perceive the answer to this question: Is the abuse of drugs to blame for societies ills, or are societies ills to blame for the abuse of drugs? As always... ![]()

Re: Different Perspective on Drugs
That is small part of societies problems
I believe that the drug abuser is to be blamed for the abuse of drugs. Disclaimer: I am referring to recreational drugs. Prescription drugs are a different story where as they are prescribed to treat an ailment and then an addiction can form. The intent was not seeking a high.

Re: Different Perspective on Drugs
Great post! I think people are too PC today and are afraid saying or doing what they feel is right will get them in some type of trouble. Stupid society.

![]() I worked at the Mall of America for about 6 years and I saw all sorts of disrespect and no one would do a damn thing about it. Mostly from kids, and their parents were right there, I was floored... one of the best memories from that places comes as I was leaving work, toward the exit is an Annie's Pretzel shop and a kit knocked something off the register for fun, and was galivanting away when an older gentelman with kids of his own stopped the kid and told him to pick it up... Old: Pick that up young: I don't need to listen to you O: Pick that up Y: NO! O: Do it. Y: You don't know me! (Old guy grabs kid by the scruff of his shirt, and 'helps' him by bringing him closer to the knocked off piece nicely letting him pick it up and place it back on the counter, then the kid has some messed up look and walks away) I wanted to give the old guy $20.00 for teaching the kid some respect. |

I have no doubt in my mind the parents are 100% to blame for these types of things and should be beaten with my fists. seriously
