Nasty tornado hit's my daughter's school!

Yes, I do have a daughter that lives in Mississippi with her mother. My daughter called me yesterday and was quite shaken up with the whole event. They are saying this was an F3 or F4 that hit the school. A bus was blown on top of the school, cars turned upside down etc. Luckily, there were only minor injuries due to the prompt action of school faculty and their tornado drills. We are all very fortunate and thankful.

Glad to hear your daughter is ok! There was some very serious weather along the MS & AL border late yesterday. There was some very extensive damage just north of Tuscaloosa also.

No doubt your sense of relief is great. I'm happy no major injuries resulted in that tornado and your girl is O.K.

When I was a kid, we didn't get out of school: we went to an interior hallway and stuck our heads between our knees. Up until last year, here in Alabama, that was still the way most schools dealt with it. Then the Enterprise thing happened, and now if Mississippi is having warnings, we pretty much know to expect a TV announcement and/or an automated phone call from the school. I can't say that disbursing the kids in some areas may be the best idea, considering some schools are probably better shelter in a tornado than the homes the kids are going to, but I guess the school boards don't want to risk having several hundred kids injured and many killed on the off-chance one should directly hit a school. Who knows...

Again, good to hear she and her classmates escaped the worst of it. Buildings can be rebuilt and new cars and busses purchased.

I recalled doing Tornado drills often in Louisiana growing up, but luckily we never needed them. I mentioned "Tornado drill" to a co-worker from Philly, and he looked at me like I was crazy!
